I think Dystopia is one of their best albums yet. I can't stop listening to it.
I think it ranks 3rd in their catalog for me behind Somthing Wicked I and Dark Saga. I think the original Something Wicked will always be my favorite album by Iced Earth.

I'm really liking this record. Didn't blow me away initially but repeated listens make it one I'm going to like more with time.

Cannot stop listening to this album and it seems to get better with ever listen. Can't believe iron will was a bonus track, one of the best on the album.

One of the best albums of the year for sure.
I think that, if an official best metal album of the year was to be launched, the contest would be tight between dystopia, time is up and immortal soul

I think my interest in Iced Earth has officially been re-kindled. The songs I've heard sound great.

I have the same opinion, and I am glad about it.

BTW: what would you comment if I say Stu Block is better a vocalist than Matt Barlow? Does he have a better vocal range than his predecessor?

Block is like a blend of Barlow & Ripper...

I wouldn't have an issue saying Bloch is better than both Barlow and Owens. In fact, I think I said it elsewhere in this thread.
Still my top album for the year. Only Grave Robber and White Wizzard have a chance of getting it off there (I'm still waiting on GR to come in the mail and I special ordered WW from my usual used CD haunt).

I am not sure I would say that but I think Stu benefited from much better music than Barlow or Ripper got in their last efforts...
I think Ripper and Barlow (in his second tenure) were slaves to Schaffer's affinity for "epicness". The music was trying to be bombastic and grandiose as opposed to ripping people's heads off...which is what Dystopia is more geared towards, IMO.

Again, more of Schaffer ripping off IRON MAIDEN's ideas.

Perhaps...I can see that. I saw it more as him competing with all the "epic" power metal at the time.

i agree. I think its no surprise Dystopia has been well received once IE stopped going down the Rhapsody lane...
