I have heard the album... long, boring, drug out, nothing new to them. It doesn't necessarily suck to me, but they could have done so much better. The album cover is stupid though and this is their worst album cover they ever did. But oh well, to each their own I guess.

The X Factor is the worst cover, followed by Dance of Death and Final Frontier.

agree with you. Unless something is really putrid (looking at you GNR - Chinese Democracy) I like to listen multiple times to really 'get it'....

I got to the first two tracks of disc 2 today. With Death of the Celts, I think Steve was going for a Powerslave style instrumental section (think Duellists). I do like the verses, but it's still the first track I don't really feel like playing again and again.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. Won't pick it up before Monday though.
Some long listening sessions await me.

Started with the first spin this morning. Already heard the first four songs.
Stratego and The Writing On The Wall turned out to be quite catchy (or maybe it's just me).
Album sounds promising so far, but there is a lot going on for the ears to absorb easily.
I will most likely need several listens.

Finished my first spin.
I enjoyed most of the tracks and can confirm that's it's a very good album.
Just don't approach it as an 80's metalhead expecting another Powerslave or Number Of The Beast.
Will go for round 2 tomorrow.

Like other folks stated here, not sure were it sits in their discography, I have spun it once and enjoyed it but its Iron Maiden, its a double CD and its going to take awhile for it to all sink in

I agree. It's almost impossible to know where it sits in their discography.

Sounds like more work than its worth to me lol If I can't decide if I like an album after hearing it once, then I'm probably not going to revisit it again.

I wasn't expecting myself to enjoy it, from first listen.
Guess it's because i was in the right mood, with the appropriate set up.
Had a long drive alone, and was able to properly absorb what was going on in the music.
Besides, i was already prepared and decided not to approach it expecting another Powerslave album.

Why would you not expect to like it from first listen though? Seems kinda weird. I don't expect to like it, so I haven't bought it. If I buy something it's because I expect to like it. Not being a dick, just trying to understand. It's almost like a lot of fans are so much in love with Maiden, that they will listen to a new album so many times until they talk themselves into loving it. Not saying this is you, just in general. I just don't see why it takes so much effort to decide I guess. I decided on the few songs they released before it was out that I most likely won't like it enough to buy. I'll check it out on YouTube one of these days, probably next baseball season when I have three hours to kill, and decide if I want it bad enough to keep the collection full.

I had only checked a couple of samples on YouTube, from my mobile phone and i didn't feel the music.
Then came the mixed reviews, which made me hesitate even more.
But then, i got the cd and played it on my car stereo, and i was truly impressed.
I don't force myself to like an album. Hell, Maiden aren't even in my top 5 bands.
But i ended up enjoying Senjutsu after all.

Maiden and Metallica both have a serious problem with editing their songs. When you got just 10 songs but you need a double cd to fit everything… it’s too bloated.

I went to Target and saw they had one copy on the shelf. I bought it (despite my aversion to their multiple long songs). The Target version has a limited edition 3D cover.
So far, I think it’s better than Book of Souls… but is that saying much? I guess I’m just a sucker for new music and nostalgia. Overall, it’s not as bad as I thought… but the vocals are a bit buried in the mix. They definitely need to cut ties with Kevin Shirley and give someone else a try.

I changed my mind. I like this album after spinning it in my car a couple times. I think it has some of Maiden’s best guitar solos. Really tasteful stuff. Kind of spacey like David Gilmour, but still trademark Maiden. I also hear a bit of Brave New World style writing.

It's a very good album imo. When i first got it, i wasn't expecting much, but with repeated listens, it got better and better.
To me, it's one of 2021's best releases.

Bought it today at a record store. They had a used copy for ten bucks, figured it was worth getting for that. Bought some other stuff I'll probably hit first, but I'll get around to it eventually. Hate it because only CD player I have is my car. Hard to really listen with full attention while driving. Plus I don't go anywhere that's three hours away, so listening to a half a song per trip won't be much help either.

I think you’ll find something you’ll like about it. It doesn’t have any youthful energy of the classic era, but it’s good in a “mature” sense. I like it much better than Book of Souls. I think it may be the best thing they’ve done since AMOLAD.

I think Book of Souls was the best thing they did since Brave New World, and BoS got boring real quick to me. Think I listened to it about ten times in all, tried listening to it about a month ago and just turned it off about half way thru. Hopefully the new one grows on me, really only cared for one song I've heard so far. I wanna like it,it's Iron fucking Maiden ffs lol
