That's Kevin Shirley for ya.
I haven't bought the new album yet either. I'm sure I will at some point (my collector's OCD will not allow me to leave a hole in my otherwise complete Maiden discography) but after the last couple of albums being total sleeping pills, it's not a high priority, I-must-have-it-immediately kind of thing.

Every new Steve Harris song sounds like a soundtrack for the movie Highlander.

Well, I gave it a listen and it's typical post '99 Maiden - long, repetitive, boring intros and the production is absolutely awful. Maiden has become very boring and nothing about this album is "progressive." It's the same old crap that they've been putting out for 20 years. Oh, Bruce sounds bad too. On the bright side it's got a cool cover.

Have to agree, though I haven't forced myself to sit thru the whole thing yet. Listened to five or six of the songs, and for the first time in a long time, I'm going to take a pass on an Iron Maiden album, spend my money on something better. These guys really do nothing for me anymore. Every album sounds exactly the same as the last. Same tired riffs, same tired beats, and I agree, Bruce sounds like shit. Not sure if it's the production or just him getting older, but something sucks.
Saw this earlier during my lunch, thought it was pretty spot on. This guys annoying AF, but also right a lot of the times too lol

I hope to get my copy within the next two weeks.
This one will clearly take repeated and lengthy listening sessions.
I did spin Book Of Souls a few days ago. Believe it or not, it's a very good album that keeps on getting better and better after each spin.

I go the opposite way. The more I listen to Book of Souls, the more bored of it I get. I really liked that one when I first bought it. Still think it's their best album in the post Bruce reunion era since Brave New World, but just too long and repetitive for my taste. I'll probably go see them on the tour, if there is one, but still going to pass on this album. Might pick it up one day used somewhere, but only to keep the collection whole.

Honestly, one of the reasons why i am buying Senjutsu is to keep my Maiden collection complete.
I am already aware that i will probably listen to the new album once or twice before putting it back on the shelves for years to come.

I have a younger brother who loves Maiden..
He will buy everthing by them. It will be interesting to hear his thoughts on the newest release..
I am happy legacy bands who are huge who still release new music.
To many bands will not! Afraid it won't match up to previous glory days..
Foreigner is a great example.
How many new greatest hits albums can you release? Or acoustic version, or live cd's etc..
Milk the fans for every penny.
I give Whitesnake credit for releasing an occasional cd of new music.
But they continue to re-release old music. Remastered bonus tracks etc..
I know only for die hard fans. But Reilly? Enough..
Okay, Off track here. Glad Maiden is still inspired enough to release new music.
Enjoy, You never know when it will end..

I used to like Maiden slightly better than Priest. Now I know Judas Priest is my preference. Plus they are smart enough to use a competent producer/engineer like Andy Sneap. The irony is that they are a band almost 10 years older than Maiden!
I give credit to Maiden for their physical showmanship though.

I just wish they would be inspired to write something different once in a while. A friend of mine who is a die hard maiden fanatic asked me who I liked better between them and Priest. Hands down it's Priest for me and he called me crazy. With Priest you can go from album to album and just about every one of them are different from one another. Not much in the way of copy and repeat with them. Yes they have a stretch of a few here and there, but overall they don't do the same old crap over and over. Maiden hasn't done anything inspiring to my ears since Brave New World. And really, I think the reason I love that one so much is because they got rid of Blaze and brought Bruce back. Love them in concert, just tired of the formula they refuse to change.

Blaze has been much better than Maiden in the last few years. Just listen to his latest album War Within Me.
Straight-forward heavy metal and one of 2021's highlights.
Why Maiden never release albums like this anymore? Wish there was a good answer.

I think its safe to say that Maiden will release the music that they want to play at this point in the bands history. Fans will still buy the albums and go to see them live

It seems when a band gets to a certain level of success like Metallica and Maiden, they almost deliberately piss off half of their fans. They’re too self-absorbed to give a shit anymore.
Only AC/DC and Motörhead cared about giving the fans what they want and expect. Gotta give props to Overkill, Testament and Exodus too!

Priest did it once with Nostradamus, which i found to be a very good album, before returning back to their roots with ROS and Firepower.

I get it but I also think playing the same songs for 20+ years and writing new songs that are similar gets boring and the need to explore kicks in.
