That album is excellent. Their follow-up, not so much.

I get a Jane's Addicition-vibe. Probably the singer's dress. Nice drumming though. Double-bass in grunge. Whoda thunk it possible?

Wow, that's just stupid. That's like saying that the only good classical music is Beethoven's 5th
And I haven't read the thread extensively, so forgive me if this has been said, but I'd say that grunge was in a lot of ways heavier than the stuff that was considered the peak of heaviness in the 80'st. That, in my mind, makes it metal.

Grunge is not something that can do anything. As established, grunge isn't even a style of music. Much like nu-metal. It's an era of music; it cannot play an instrument.
I'm referring to the collective bands from Seattle (at the time) that were under the "grunge" moniker.

What grunge bands had double bass and flashy solos? I consider Alice In Chains the best of 'em...
But, Jerry (as good as he is), didn't shred.

There's always the occasional exception to the rule... but it actually sounds more like the bass player is chugging the E string fast to give the impression of double bass.
Nice skirt BTW.

To me grunge was the opposite of metal. It was a reaction AGAINST metal. Just like punk was a reaction against prog-rock in the '70's, grunge was a reaction against pop-metal in the '90's.
Grunge was never about being popular or mainstream. Unfortunatly that was what it became.

MSM, Gruntruck, AIC and Soundgarden all represented the metal side of grunge.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's not him. He left Greta before this album came out. Since all my CDs are in totes in the basement, I don't know if he even played on the album.

Just happened upon the Greta CD while doing some re-organizing. Scott Carneghi is credited as the drummer on the album.
And since we're posting what may or may not be metal. One of my all time favorite albums from any genre you want to call it.

And as far as being AIC being opportunistic posers, I would argue that Green River started the whole grunge trend inthe mid-80's with Mother Love Bone and their kind debuting a little bit later,
Early on, AIC were doing Armored Saint covers. They never sounded like any of the other grunge bands.
How are they be posers?
