I also saw a sign posted that read "Pre-order any new release and get it for $6.99 on day of arrival". That's pretty decent.

wow 6.99? I might just have to go back and find out more about that one.

seriously, that's pretty sweet!

I'm thinking the same thing. This price drop sounds like a last ditch effort to make a profit. It's the first step in clearing the stores of unsold mechandise that's been sitting on the shelves for much too long. Sell off what they have, consolidate the merch, close more stores, and eventually file for bankruptcy. I guess we'll see what happens.

I'd look into that one a little more first. It was just a little sign someone printed out on a computer. No other details were given.

I went to their store in Schaumburg, Illinois today. There prices still seem to be as high as ever. I think their selection is better than most, but they charge quite a bit more. For instance you can get Scorpions "Animal Magnetism", "Blackout" for $7.99 at Best Buy, but you'll pay double that at F.Y.E. There is that occasion where you'll find a good price. I know that I payed $8.99 for Metal Church "The Dark" a few weeks back.

I went back to FYE last night and I had some more time to look around. I don't know how long ago this $9.99 sale started, but it appears to be working. The racks were fairly well picked through and allot less packed than I've seen in past visits. There also seemed to be more foot traffic in the store for a Monday night at the mall. It will be very telling in a business sense if they bother to re-stock or just let the merchandise run out and eventually close shop altogether.

I was in an FYE at the Cherry Hill mall over the weekend and although all of the cds were their normal over-priced selves, I did see signage that read all regular dvds were $9.99 or less. So I guess they're trying the lower price thing on them too.

I went to a mall like 2 weeks ago, and it said $9.99 specials. When I got in, plenty of albums were at regular price, around $17. The good finds where RobRock live in Atlanta cd/dvd $17, and extreme-pornografiti used $5

Not happening in the one I was recently in. And the two used cd's I was interested in looked like they'd been used as coasters.

Don't know if they're doing this at my local FYE, but they often have decent specials on their used CDs. I haven't been in there in over a month. I almost always feel compelled to at least browse, but the internet is my #1 source for albums these days. Heck, even Walmart or Best Buy puts FYE to shame for the stuff I'm into.

This store doesn't even carry video games, which I think is a major mistake on their part.

So the other night, I asked the kid behind the counter what the deal was on this pre-order offer. He was a bit of a mush-mouthed teenager, so I had a hard time understanding him, but he said that you need to put down a $6 deposit and then when the cd arrives, it's only $6.99.

I don't know if that means you're really paying $12.99 or if your $6 deposit is good on multiple pre-orders. If it's the former, it ain't worth it, however if it's the latter, it could work out if you pre-order a few items and spread the cost of that $6 deposit over the cost of a few cds. Either way I'm confused. And the counter help needs to take the marbles out of their mouths. Damn kids!! FYE Dropping Prices? - Page 2 115166

The old crank from Walmart needs to pay them a visit and slap 'em around a bit. "Speak up when your elders are talking to you, son. Get the marbles out of your mouth. What are you, stupid or something?"

hahaha

I was sad to find out that one FYE store that I would stop at when me and my gf would go out to eastern long island, has closed. I really didn't go there but maybe 1 or twice a year because its about an hour away but I would always stop there on the way back home. Now looks like I won't be doing that anymore. Atleast the pizza place next store is still open though and I can get a Galatto.

Another music store closed too out by this FYE, it was a mom and pop shop. I would probably stop in this one as much as that FYE store, but still another place I won't be able to go to again.

DAMN kids and their blasted mp3's they're ruining everything!

So I went into FYE today by my house to pick up the new Sonata Arctica. I also saw the new Children Of Bodom which I had in my hand but thought wait a minute why don't I go over to the mall where it'll be 9.99. So I grabbed the Sonata Arctica cd just incase and left the store. I get to the mall and search around for the Children Of Bodom cd and couldn't find it. I asked the girl if they had it cause I saw it in the other store and she goes to ask someone else and she says is it one of "Those Cd's"? So the other person asked the manager and he's like what do I tell him and the manager says just tell him we don't have it. So..... what im guessing is that the mall doesn't want to sell their new released Metal cds for 9.99 since their other store will have it for regular price. But I don't get why they would exclude those cds when they had others that were released today too that were in the other store. I went back to the other store and picked it up. BASTARDS!

Looks like the "ALL CD'S $9.99 OR LESS" experiment is coming to an end. Sort of.

I went in to the local FYE last night to pick up the new Maiden and Sword cds. Right away, I noticed that all of the huge red signs hanging from the ceiling (all cd's $9.99 or less) were gone. And then looking through the racks, you could see the $9.99 stickers peeled off of most of the merch.

There are smaller signs posted around the store that now say "1000's of cd's $9.99 or less" but I didn't see anything worthwhile for that price. Most were around $14.99. Maiden was on sale for $12.99, but the regular sticker price was jacked back up to $19.99. WTF? Who's paying $20 for a cd in 2010? The Sword was on sale too, regulary priced for $14.99 on sale this week for $9.99.

Well it was nice while it lasted. I picked up quite a few cd's during that brief period, but it looks like I'll be back to the used section of FYE. No more regular priced cd's for me. $20 bucks for a standard cd? Yea right! FYE Dropping Prices? - Page 2 201269

I noticed that this weekend when I went to FYE all the big signs had been removed and what is really sad is that according to the store manager they had loved the promo because it brought tons of people into the store.

Well back to on line shopping for me.

I don't get it either. I guess someone brighter than I figured it makes sense to charge more for cds and make a bigger profit margin, even it it means selling less product overall. FYE Dropping Prices? - Page 2 Icon_scratch I dunno. Don't be surprised if you see FYE filing for bankruptcy in the near future.

My store still has the signs and most of the cds that aren't double or special edition are still $9.99. Maybe it didn't work in some stores so they figured mark the prices back up and screw the people to make a few bucks and then the store will eventually go out of business. I haven't really been shopping at FYE as much as I was due to money issues but I do stop in for a new release I know they will definetly have. Otherwise my store used to have a great used bin but it really has been empty lately.

If the prices do go back up I don't think I'll step foot in the store again and everything will just have to be ordered online from now on. My other store is closing next month and all of his stuff was 9.99.

This truely blows.

I went to Walmart over the weekend and went to their CD section and it is now only one small row, I think that really sucks, I very rarely buy music from Walmart but I do remember when Walmart had a section devoted to music, that is now a thing of the past.

Record companies by over pricing their product and their lack of care in trying to promote long term careers is sad, short sighted and not to mention stupid. I have said it before I will say it again they have no one to blame but themselves.

Same with my local Walmart. The cd section is just one small row and mostly consist of Greatest Hits compilations.

Could be. I only noticed it last night at my local FYE. There are 2 others that I occasionally shop, but haven't been there lately.

Going back to raising the prices? Pathetic. The $9.99 albums never caught on at the store in Lansing, Michigan (other than new metal releases) but since I moved down to Florida last month, the FYE at the mall here has had everything within $10-15 (all special editions/double discs were more though).

I've bought more from the FYE here in the past month than I have bought from that company probably in the last 3 years. If they're going back to their old ways, looks like I will too. Thank Zeus for buying used stuff off Amazon for literally pennies!

Their DVDs were still a ripoff though, I really wish FYE would go out of business. They seem to have the same stuck-up arrogant attitude that Circuit City did.

Looks like I spoke too soon about my FYE after all. I went there last week (i forgot to write about it) and to my surprise the prices were back up again. MOTHER @(%$%@! One thing I don't get though is that they have a new sign saying HUNDREDS OF CD's 9.99! but it should really say HUNDREDS OF CD'S 9.99 (except the ones you want). I went to pick up the new Weezer which they had for 9.99 but I wanted the deluxe one, which get this, is basically the same thing single cd with 4 extra songs added to it. You know how much they wanted for that one? 17.99! So I left it there. I went to get the new Kamelot too they had the deluxe one 17.99 as well but that one made more sense and actually i think it was on sale for 14.99. so I bought it then also bought the new Flotsam and Jetsam which was 14.99 and the new Lordi which was actually 9.99 (thank god). So just for the hell of it I called another store I go to and they had the Kamelot and Flotsam for 10 and FYE had weezer for 9 so I returned my stuff back to FYE except the Lordi.

I think I'm done with FYE. The used bin was a great section for a while and lately it hasnt had anything. I'm getting my stuff from Amazon from now on. Most of the time its free shipping and there always ends up being a discount. SCREW YOU FYE! Now you can go bankrupt like *ockbuster.

I went to FYE to do some trades and asked the manage why they dropped the 9.99 pricing they were doing and she was very honest, stated that FYE was making money, more money then they had in the past, more traffic in stores and CD's were selling but certain record labels and even some artist refuse to participate in the selling their CD at the 9.99 price, once they ended the the experiment alot of labels and artists were able to be restocked at FYE, she said it was lots and lots of labels and artists refuse to cooperate, which to me is insanity when CD sales keep slipping further and further, and the suits and some of these so called artists wonder why this is, further proof the industry is made up of morons.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice they kept that thing going, I never got to see those prices at the nearest FYE around. It's not so exiting to order online
