Megadeth Are Better Than Metallica Interesting article. Their are a couple of points that I disagree on, though:
- Musicianship: Megadeths' musicianship is going to be better because Mustaine went out and hired guys for their chops. Chris and Gar were both jazz musicians. They weren't metal players to start out with (on a side note, jazz players are the most talented musicians). Metallica was more or less four guys with the same vision.
- Hair: Really? Who cares?
- Thrash: David didn't invent it. Metallica (James, Lars, Dave, Ron) invented thrash if anyone did.
- Lyrics: Dave had a habit of using the "look-at-how-evil-I-am" lyric in the early days. I find it to be ""
My opinion, of course. | |

| The hair part was just a joke and I'm pretty sure the thrash part was as well. I enjoyed his writing style and the humor he threw into this. I'll have to keep an eye out for his work from now on. | |

| Just heard a radio interview Dave did and he said they're already getting ready to write the next album so they can hand it into Roadrunner and get the heck out of that deal. More new Megadeth is always a good thing. I just hope he doesn't mail it in and turn in something subpar just to get away from them, but given his ego, I don't think he will. Plus, despite saying that the next release would be the last, he says he doesn't want to end the band's career with Roadrunner. So we've got at least two more 'deth albums. | |

| I will be reading this book when it gets released: Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson tells Classic Rock magazine that he isn't looking forward to reading former bandmate Dave Mustaine's upcoming autobiography, "Hello Me… This Is The Real Me." Ellefson, who worked with Mustaine from 1983 to 2002, says, "I'm not sure I really want to read what he has to say. I doubt he'll send me a copy anyway!" Ellefson says that he is disappointed that Mustaine still seems to bear a grudge against him and other former members of Megadeth. "I just hope that one day we can get past this, and that peace will reign," he tells Classic Rock. "We should all be proud of what Megadeth achieved, and have respect for each of us brought to the band." In 2004, Ellefson filed suit against Mustaine claiming, among other things, breach of fiduciary obligation, libel and emotional distress. Speaking to Guitar World for the magazine's December 2009 issue, Mustaine stated about his current relationship with Ellefson, "Dave sued me for 18-and-a-half million dollars. And he lost. That had to have hurt. And the fans — a lot of them turned on him. That had to have hurt. He lost one of his oldest friends. That had to have hurt. There probably were a lot of changes, financial and otherwise, he had to make in his life after Megadeth. That had to have hurt, too. And I'm not the kind of guy to sit back and watch that happen to somebody who, at one point, I loved. So I met with Dave a while ago and we had dinner, and he said, 'You know, [suing you] was the stupidest thing I've ever done. I wish I never did it.' So I forgave him. Bottom line for me is there's this one little thing I'll always be curious about: I just keep thinking, if he had won the lawsuit, what would he have done? Would he have taken 18-and-a-half million dollars from me? Or would he have just said, 'You know what? I was just trying to prove a point. Let's get back together and you behave yourself.'" "Hello Me... Meet The Real Me" is due next year through HarperCollins. The book was co-written by New York Times journalist Joe Layden who also authored "The Last Great Fight" about what is considered by many to be the biggest upset in the history of boxing: James "Buster" Douglas' tenth-round knockout win over Mike Tyson in 1990. | |

| I've been looking forward to this book for a long time. I've always viewed Dave's opinions as what he believes to be the truth, but not necessarily the real truth. Gonna be fun.
I gotta side with Mustaine on Ellefson. He's begged for his job back and Mustaine refuses. Good for him. Ellefson always seemed like a nice guy, but Mustaine brings up a great point -- how would he act today if he had won the suit? Probably wouldn't want anything to do with Megadeth.

| I've always found the Dave and Dave split quite a sad one. They were a great duo for such a long time and then things went ridiculously sour. I don't think either of them can claim they were in the right, but I'd say Ellefson certainly has his head screwed on a lot more Mustaine. Still, looking forward to reading the auto-biography, even if it will be steeped in bias. _________________ | |

| Ellefson overvalued his contribution to MEGADETH, asked for way too much money, and was easily replaced by other bassists. Did he write a single riff on any DETH album? | |

Did he write a single riff on any DETH album? Well, of course, there are conflicting stories regarding this. Whilst I agree that he probably did ask for too much money, he certainly received a fair share of writing credits. Now, Mustaine says these credits amount to nothing more than suggesting a song title from a very obvious line in the lyrics, but of course Mustaine is hardly a trustworthy source. I still think it's a shame he's gone though, just because it seems like Megadeth as a band have very little consistency. I swear it didn't always seem so much like the Dave Mustaine Project. _________________

| Yea, I've always felt bad for Junior. As much as a fan-boy I am of all things MegaDave, I was saddened when I heard the news Ellefson was out. With him gone, it was now all Mustaine with noone to challenge him musically or otherwise at all. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Obviously it's not worth much seeing how easily he was replaced. | |

| The only consistency I'm concerned with is the musical quality. As long as that's there I don't care if he was to replace band members every other day. | |

Just wanted to say the last three Albums are brilliant masterpiece!
Personal preference is Endgame though I love Th1rt3en and Super Collider equally.

- In November and December of 2012, MEGADETH blazed hot on the band's "Countdown To Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour", ripping through their entire double platinum 1992 album from start to finish before performing other classics from their recorded catalog. Recorded and filmed at Los Angeles' Fox Theatre last December, "Countdown to Extinction: Live" is a definitive document of the acclaimed, sold-out tour.
In addition to MEGADETH's blistering performance of the entire "Countdown To Extinction" album, including the essential "Symphony Of Destruction", "Foreclosure Of A Dream", "Sweating Bullets" and "Skin O' My Teeth", "Countdown to Extinction: Live" features all of the other MEGADETH classics the band performed at the epic concert, including "Holy Wars" and "Hangar 18" from 1990's "Rust In Peace", "Peace Sells" from the band's influential, platinum-certified 1986 album "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?", and "Trust" from 1997's platinum certified "Cryptic Writings".
On September 24, "Countdown To Extinction: Live" will be released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray via Capitol.
"Countdown To Extinction: Live" track listing:
01. Intro 02. Architecture Of Aggression 03. Ashes In Your Mouth 04. Captive Honour 05. Countdown To Extinction 06. Foreclosure Of A Dream 07. Hangar 18 08. High Speed Dirt 09. Holy Wars 10. Peace Sells 11. Psychotron 12. Public Enemy 13. She Wolf 14. Skin O' My Teeth 15. Sweating Bullets 16. Symphony Of Destruction 17. This Was My Life 18. Trust 19. Outro
Hmmmm, seems like it wasn't that long ago they released the Rust In Peace Live album. Is this becoming the new "re-record the classics" format? Fan-boy that I am, I'm sure I'll pick this up at some point, but it won't be a priority. PS Could a mod bump this back up to the land of the living. News this important doesn't deserve to be in the morgue. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I was reading about this and got kind of excited. They did a great job on RIP live, like surprisingly good. Although if you watch the video closely, there is a lot of weird shit going on (Dave down low on the neck when there are high notes playing, a full octave slide happening when neither guitarist is even touching the neck, toms being heard when cymbals are hit, and Dave's voice cutting off while his mouth is open). Either way, it's fun stuff, and Countdown was such a cool album.

I don't think it's the "new" re-record the classics - I would personally rather watch the blu ray/listen to the album of a live show playing a whole album than listen to a studio version of a re-record. I'm sure I will pick this up.
