Stuck
Woman hits newly-homeless man with her car and he gets "stuck" in the windshield. She drives home, pulls into her garage and leaves him there. Odd little movie very loosely based on a real incident. Directed by Stuart ("Reanimator") Gordon with some pitch-black comedic elements.

Fast Five (2011) - They finally gave up any pretense of reality or logic or physics in the 5th film of this franchise and all of a sudden everything clicked into place beautifully. The key for this franchise was to fully embrace the ridiculous. When it comes to gloriously stupid-on-purpose cinema it doesn't get much better.

I never saw that, but I do remember when it came out, it took some heat from some African American organizations because Hollywood felt it necessary to change the main character from a robust black woman to a skinny white girl in braided hair that "acts" black.

Don't take this the wrong way, but how can someone like you with such a vast and intelligent knowledge of music and cinema watch such drek? That's like Wolfgang Puck eating at Arby's.

It's well-made drek, it's like the car racing equivalent of James Bond's You Only Live Twice, so ridiculously over-the-top that it basically becomes a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. It works because it doesn't take itself seriously for a millisecond.

I liked it - seen it a few times now that it is on constant repeat on cable. Fun film - interesting how the franchise has change from the first film, which was basically a re-write of Point Break, replacing the surfboards with cars.
I do want to see the latest one.

I've heard enough of F&F's high points to make me want to go and see the rest of the franchise. Never thought that would happen.

It's the last Friday night before baseball season starts so I'm left to my own devices.
I think I'm going to watch "Cool Hand Luke" (Blu-ray edition; not that I think it makes any difference in a movie this old).
I just love this film; I've probably seen it at least 20 times. I think what amazes me most is how realistic it seems yet how little swearing there is.

Duke vs Michigan State
I loved the National Anthem. They had a basketball player from Wisconsin, a football player from Duke, and female soccer players from Michigan State and Kentucky perform it. Great job! That guy from Wisconsin can really sing!

Yeah, Duke destroyed MSU.
Now I'm rooting for KY.
I hate WI for reasons I won't get into here. Let's just say I know some fans of theirs' who are white supremacists and apparently that's not all that uncommon in parts of the state.

"Despicable Me" (2010)
A super-villain (voiced by Steve Carell) "adopts" three orphan girls as part of his evil master plan to steal the moon - but eventually being a "Dad" makes him re-examine his priorities. A very funny slapstick animated comedy; the "minions" are a highlight (and they're getting their own movie this summer!).
"Altered States" (1980)
In Ken Russell's sci-fi/horror mind f*cker, a young research scientist (William Hurt) is obsessed with uncovering the deepest, darkest levels of the human psyche -- but his experiments, which involve a potent Mexican psychedelic drug and an isolation tank - eventually go wrong in a pretty major way.
"Wonder Woman" (2009)
Action packed re-telling of WW's first adventure in "Man's World," nicely animated as usual plus plenty of ultra-violence.

I saw Altered States in the theater when it came out. I barely remember anything about it other than some murderous ape-thing running around in the dark and being bored out of my mind.

I loved Altered States when it came out. Went out and bought the book right after seeing it. I don't find it boring at all.

I saw Altered States drunk. Greatest movie ever made. I think.
Ken Russell's movies are like a different cinematic planet. They're not that good but they sure are different.

My favorite Ken Russell movie is easily "Lair Of The White Worm".
