NFL Draft
To no one's surprise, Tampa took Winston at one and Tennessee took Mariota at two.

I sure hope my Rams take an O-line guy with the 10th pick.

OMG!
We took an injured running back.
WTF???? Even if he was 100% ready, who the hell is going to block for him? We have no O-line.

I haven't watched football for several years now...but this sounds like a typical Rams decision to me.

The Rams' drafts have been pretty good the last few years and have actually given them one of the better defenses in the NFC. But this pick just baffles me. We need O-line guys like crazy and we already have a half dozen running backs so we draft another one who's coming off a serious knee injury and we still have no offensive line to block for him.

"Creature" (1985)
Space explorers awaken a carnivorous something-or-other on one of Saturn's moons, and naturally it turns out badly for everyone involved in this enjoyably sleazy, gory low-budget "Alien" wanna-be.

This movie is so close to my heart. I remember seeing the VHS cover at the rental store and being dumbstruck as a kid. When I finally saw it, yeah it was cheapo, but I LOVED IT. I wouldn't mind seeing it again now. It fits in with my personal Z-grade trilogy: STRANGE INVADERS, STAR CRYSTAL, and CREATURE. Those three, as awful as they were, made up a good piece of my childhood.
And Klaus Kinski is a riot in Creature.

I've seen that one. Fun stuff! I even reviewed it on my blog awhile back:
A whole mess of "Alien" wanna-be's made the drive-in rounds back then: Galaxy of Terror, Inseminoid, Alien Contamination, and even an unofficial "sequel" made in Italy called Alien 2: On Earth!

Considering the chaos, it's amazing that we did get so many people out.

Also flipping back to the NFL draft occasionally.

Same here. Pretty good game. Can't believe that AJ Burnett has the only rbi in the game so far.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Saw it yesterday and I think it's a tighter, more focused and funnier film than the first (which I also liked). Leaving aside the prerequisite action mayhem which I'm sure is handed to any Marvel director as a punch-list they have to hit at this point (I know that for the first film Whedon said he had a large list of items he had to insert into the script at Marvel's insistence...sure it's the same case here), the difference in Whedon's films is the feel and the rhythm of the character moments.
Just like he did on Buffy, Joss manages to create real character moments despite the way-over-the-top genre surroundings they inhabit. Plot is secondary, how the plot impacts the characters and seeing them react to it is the primary. I did enjoy Guardians Of The Galaxy last year, but watching Ultron yesterday really showed how much sharper and funnier Whedon's dialogue is when compared to some of these other Marvel movies.
The first movie had to spend a lot of time getting all these characters together and then bonding them to work as a unit, Ultron not having to go through those hoops seems like a more streamlined experience because of it. Here we start with the group firmly in place, the characters already established, which allows Joss to spend the time deepening the characters and their relationships. My favorite parts of the movie were the quieter moments; the cocktail party, the time spent at Hawkeye's ranch, the moments with Banner/Black Widow together in the first halting moments of a deeper relationship, the back story of the twins, etc.
The movie by design is of course overstuffed with action sequences and while they are expertly handled I think the MCU is going to have to find something new to do besides destroying cities in upcoming films, it is starting to feel a little over-used at this juncture. Regardless, Joss provides some eye-popping segments including the excellent pre-credit sequence (one of the best from the entire series) and the hilarious Hulk-buster armor sequence.
Age of Ultron is likely to be the final Whedon-directed Marvel film and I'm looking forward to seeing him be able to stretch his creative wings again outside this universe, but man, personally I think he's gone out on a very high note and delivered 2 very entertaining, very complex movies and managed to keep them human and relatable. Cheers Joss, you did well.

Poor AJ. With a little run support he could be 4 and 0.
Pirates are at it again today with leaving guys on. I thought that was a Cardinal specialty but so far today the Pirates have left 16 guys on through 10 innings. Tied 1-1 in extras again. Pirates have outhit the Cardinal's 12-3; how the hell this is a tie game is amazing.
These two teams sure battle each other.
EDIT: Wow, the Bucs just left 2 more guys on base in the top of the 11th. I can't remember the last time I saw a team leave 18 runners on base in a game. Even the Cardinals don't do that; we're usually good for around 12.
EDIT2: Cards just won on a sac fly in the bottom of the 11th.
