| I think we've done this before, but why not do it again? What are those albums that everyone loves that you can't get in to/don't like? For me it's these: Rush - entire discography - I've tried mulitple times to like them but I just don't. I find Geddy Lee's singing to be repellent. Nevermore - everything - I own all of their albums and none of them have clicked for me. I don't get it. Sanctuary is 1000X better than anything they ever did. Battle Angels!!! Maiden - Seventh Son - average album that was panned upon release and somehow has become popular over time. Their run of greatness was ended by this record. Metallica - Death Magnetic - this sucks. The songs have no flow. People only love it because it's not as god awful as St. Anger. How about you? | |

| Many, but two that come to mind:
Dark Side of the Moon: love Floyd, but not this album.
British Steel: love Priest, but never listen to this one.

People love it because it was pretty much as return to form for them. No more hard rock biker ballads or garbage can drumming. I enjoyed it, but the outrageous length, having long songs for the sake of long songs, and the shitty production is a bit of a turn off.

| Anything by Motorhead.
I know metalheads revere the band but I just can't get past Lemmy's "vokills". _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Kiss: Destroyer. I like Kiss, but aside from a couple songs, I could do without this album.
Slayer: Reign in Blood. The weakest of their first few releases .

Ugh, you beat me to it! For an album that's revered as the greatest thrash metal album of all time, and you were none the wiser, you would assume that "Reign in Blood" is a 2-song EP. Because the only songs anyone really mention are "Angel of Death" and poser-anthem "Raining Blood." Aside from these two songs and "Criminally Insane," that album bored me into a catatonic state.

Aside from these two songs and "Criminally Insane," that album bored me into a catatonic state. "Angel of Death" is probably the only song on the album I would put on a Best-of Slayer compilation.

| yep, we have done this a bunch of times haha.... buuuut..
- I have to second you on Rush.. although it isn't due to Geddy, but more the fact that I can't connect on an emotional level with a lot of their material. Not any reasoning that it's too technical or something, it just doesn't hit me in any intense way whether it be happy, sad, abstract, etc. It's kind of content to be there, most of it.
- I don't like Iced Earth (this counts as albums because people jerk off the entire discography). Yeah, if I was on a desert island, I'd rather have 'Something Wicked' than a Madonna album, but outside of some early stuff like on 'Night Of The Stormrider' it just does nothing for me, their particular trademarks and tricks just irritate me and so does Barlow on a lot of stuff he's on.
- Dark Side Of The...zzz.... ok, maybe that's not entirely fair, and I appreciate the general atmosphere, but it's like...I would never pull this out over, say, 'Meddle'. And I think 'Money' completely disrupts the flow of the record, like TOO much.
- Keeper Of The Seven Keys 2.... Always thought part 1 was so much better it's almost funny. Make part 2 an EP with the title track, 'Eagle Fly Free', 'March of Time', then we'd be talking, but most of those songs, who cares?
- Blackwater Park..... I seem to notice this as being 'the' Opeth album.. how about no. The "riffing" is insipid in about 75% of this record, they have been lazily dancing around this 'Opeth scale' for like 5 records since this one. Almost none of the changes are interesting, you've also got excessive use of the 'Opeth shuffle', that mid-paced 4/4 thing that happens after every acoustic section..even 'Still Life' did it better than this and most of that record sounded pretty lost too. I will say, I really love the title track here, 'Harvest' is really good, and those two acoustic bonus tracks, awesome. Most of the heavier songs do nothing.

I'm the exact opposite when it comes to Rush. I really connect with their music. I used to be really into Iced Earth, but I've gotten quite bored with them of late. I like Keepers II, but I agree part I is easily superior.

I suspect its due to saturation, but even open minded revisiting falls flat for me.

For me it's not Lee. It's the instrumental parts. They sound cool at first, but the songs never seem to go anywhere. It's like band practise. I think it's pretentious to release it as a fully thought out record. If they had a little more edge, then maybe yeah, I can dig that. Prog metal is something I can appreciate. Rush isn't very edgy, they are kind of whiny. Later on, having commercial songs mixed with their prog, made it only worse. I still own their CDs, but hardly ever feel like playing them. I think I like 70's Genesis more. Their songs always had a nice atmosphere. Rush was more technical. - Witchfinder wrote:

Yeah, it's not great, but who said it was?! It's not terrible though. I bought it long after release from a discount bin and haven't played it in ages. But I don't recall it being terrible. Just 'meh'.

| Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance I only like Electric Eye.
Metallica - Master of Puppets I only like half of the album.
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor Born is great, but the other songs left me cold.

| 'Electric Eye' is as good of a favorite as it gets though. I forgot 'Puppets', I agree there. I remember digging it for about a year when I was first first getting into metal, but all these years later while I'm still listening to....say, 'Screaming For Vengeance', I don't care about 'Master of Puppets'... | |

| I don't like Kiss at all, save for the debut and a few songs scattered throughout the rest of their catalog.
I find Nevermore boring too, except for the self titled album and the In Memory EP.
I'm not a huge fan of Queensryche's self titled EP, either. I think all the albums after it until Promised Land are better.
Anything Dream Theater other than Images and Words and Awake.
And on other recesses of the internet (/r/metal, specifically) people circlejerk over Gojira's From Saturn to Mars and Mastodon's Leviathan. Both of which I think are mediocre. Mastodon has done much better with Crack the Skye and the Hunter, and Gojira all sounds the same to me.

| Rush is brilliant, in my top 3 bands of all-time.
Hmmm…album I hate that everyone loves?
Judas Priest - Painkiller. Bandwagon jumping speed metal nonsense by a bunch of old geezers trying to remain relevant. Uninspired and contrived. |

| Pantera- Far Beyond Driven. Read a review that said the album was great, so I bought it, but did not like it. Few years later I read a review about Pantera's Great Southern Trendkill, they also said it was great, so I figured maybe I was not in the right mood when I got Far Beyond Driven, or maybe it was their worst album, anyway, long story short, I bought it too, and did not like it either. | |

| I'm with Witchfinder on Seventh Son. It's nothing but second-rate AOR Maiden. I've tried many times to appreciate it but it always comes through flat. Somewhere in Time was twice the record Seventh Son was. And those insipidly mixed keyboards...
In other news:
Winger - Pull: looks like it's everyone's favorite Winger album. To me its a disgusting last-ditch effort of a band that already pulled the pin from the grenade.
Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal: I want to like this album, and it is a monster, but there is so freaking much going on and relentless chaos for the full length that I would have to name it the most inaccessible thrash album I've heard yet. But that's not a complaint. I hold the album in high respect and hope that it clicks one day.
Anything by Stryper before ATL: Stryper fans make me scratch my head. That was some pretty lame music during a time when Ratt and VH were producing much better fare. But I agree the new album is solid.
There's more, but that's the top of my list.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
I also agree on Screaming for Vengeance and completely don't get Pantera, Rush or KISS. I'll throw in Dream Theatre
