I'm taking off tomorrow (post oncall recovery) and I'm making a trek to another liquor store that's been recommended to me. On the lookout for Aquavit. Most liquor stores around here stock their liquor by type (Rum, Vodka, etc.). What would you say Aquavit is?

It also goes by the name "Snaps" (or "Schnapps" in American English)

It is the kind of "shot" you use besides a big meal, to help with the digestion. I don't think it is good for drinking on it's own. Traditionally it is mostly used here for the Christmas dinner, alongside the steaks, thick gravies and beer.

Now that's useful. So it will probably be in with schnapps.

I just want to taste it. I'm adventurous when it comes to alcohol. I even got up the nerve to try blueberry oatmeal stout last fall.

Toho, I'm sorry, but I think you'll be disappointed - it tastes dreadful

If I hate it, maybe I can cook with it. I just want to see if I can even find it.

Sorry, I've been busy. I appreciate the offer but I don't think it's legal.

I have two more cocktails to add to this- Purple People Eaters (Blue Curacao, Bacardi and Peach Schnapps) and Surfer on Acid (Jager and rum ). The hangovers were mighty. We also had ones that I've forgotten the name of- the had creme de cacao, creme de menthe, vanilla vodka and ice cream. Oh, and for the record, an Irish Carbomb is made with a shot or two of Jameson or Paddy's whiskey, a measure of Baileys cream liqueur (which is also made with whiskey) and topped off with Guinness. I've never had one but they sound vile.

I am a stereotypical Wisconsinite to the core. Far and away I prefer beer: high quality local beers for drinking, cheaper lagers for cooking bratwurst.
The one kind of liquor I enjoy is brandy, also a Wisconsin thing (this 2004 article says that Korbel sold 1/3 of all their production in Wisconsin, http://onmilwaukee.com/bars/articles/brandy.html )
I don't really drink it plain though. I like Brandy Old Fashioneds, which I also understand to be a Wisconsin creation (being a modification of Whiskey Old Fashioneds). The Brand Old Fashioned is kind of the unofficial state mixed drink and it's everywhere. I don't think you can even get a Whiskey Old Fashioned here.

And opened up this 12 year old Chivas Regal to enjoy it in, which was delicious:

I have a bottle of Bowmore Enigma, 12 year old and despite this very young age it is really fine.

Depends. I enjoy single-malt Scotch's like Bowmore more than blended whisky's for sure, but sometimes just gotta taste the blends to apprectiate the singles

Just got back from Barbados and had one of these. It was O.K., a little bitter for my tastes.
That's not my hand, I just found a picture on photobucket.

Whisky saves man's eyesight after being blinded by vodka
He drank bad vodka and went blind. Doctor gave him Johnnie Walker Black and amazingly the patient was cured.

Tis the season for fresh grinded coffee beans brewed over an open fire, homemade irish cream, and a splash of brandy. Kickin back in front of the wood stove !
