I'm more of a 70s Electronic Music guy anyway: Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Manuel Gottsching, Michael Hoenig, Synergy, Kitaro, Edgar Froese, Peter Baumann and Vangelis.

With some 80s stuff: Michael Garrison, Johannes Schmoelling, Christopher Franke(I think he's 90s, but oh well)

I went through a year long techno/industrial phase back in 1994. Some of the stuff I still like from that time would be Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated, and The Utah Saints. I've also always been a big fan of Kraftwerk and Nitzer Ebb.

Maybe try something slower first?

This one is dark, yeah, but much of this music does have a dark shade to it......I actually find it surprising there's not more fans, with so many growing up in the cyberpunk era of Blade Runner and et al. There's a big, big, big difference between Jersey Shoreish dubstep whatever and music like this.

I'm testing the waters of this genre now... stuff like the Knife, Mortal, Aphex Twin, Leftfield, and Boards of Canada. Some of the darker EDM I've heard is really good.
