IMO, RJD was THE best singer Heavy Metal ever saw...period...end of story. He will be missed.

I think too one of the things that set him apart was his class as a person. I never met him personally but from all the interviews and stuff he seemed like a class act.

I liked this quote from Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. Sums it all up really.

"Rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio... one of the greatest of all time.

"Looks like Dime, Randy, Cliff, and Bonzo just scored the ultimate singer.

"This is one of the saddest days in metal ever."

deeply saddened by the loss of Ronnie! he was my first introduction to metal! loved him in Rainbow and followed him to Sabbath! he is the reason i love the metal music today and remain in the metal business today! it is because of his influence that inspired a love in my heart for the metal music and musican most particularly the Christian musican! it is why i continue to do what i do whether it is a word of encouragement or support or defined role such as a promotional manager that i stand before you very humbled and yet proud that i can be a part of this and i thank Ronnie for introducing me to the music that continues to impact me and my lifes work.his distintive vocals will be truly missed,one of a kind and deep and powerful! prayers going to Wendy and family and all of us that mourn his loss!

Dio Rules!! R.I.P. RJD.

I have been listening to Ronnie James Dio since I was 13 years old, when I took my brother's tape of Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell, and just like that I became a fan for life.

Growing up in the 80's as a skinny long haired latino kid who did not fit in, Dio's music and lyrics gave me something to hold on to, as goofy as silly as it may sound I did not feel so alone in the world.

Since then my life has changed, I am parent of teenagers myself, and I no longer feel that like an outcast but I am grateful for the music Dio and others have created that allowed me to survive and inspire and allowed me to thrive.

I know alot of lyrics have been criticized etc but I found alot of lyrics filled with hope and meant alot to me as a teenager:

If your circle stays unbroken then you're a lucky man 'cause it never never never has for me
In the palace of the virgin lies the chalice of the soul and it's likely you might find the answer there
She had thirteen years of teenage tears and never a helping hand
She had fourteen more of rain before she saw the sight of land
She was a photograph just ripped in half a smile inside a frown
And then the light the answer right inside her coming down
She said I can go away I can leave here I can be invisible I'll go away

Thank you for the music Ronnie James Dio and you gave us more than we had a right to ask and this metal fan salutes you. Thankfully the music you created is eternal.

Listening to Evil Eyes right now. What a GREAT VOICE he had. Such a shame.

"Yesterday 16th May my dear, dear friend Ronnie James Dio passed away at 7.45am L.A. time.
"I've been in total shock; I just can't believe he's gone.
"Ronnie was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. We had some fantastic times together.
"Ronnie loved what he did, making music and performing on stage. He loved his fans so much. He was a kind man and would put himself out to help others.
"I can honestly say it's truly been an honor to play at his side for all these years.
"His music will live on forever.
"Our thoughts are with Wendy Dio [Ronnie's wife/manager] who stood by Ronnie until the end. He loved her very much.
"The man with the magic voice is a star amongst stars, a true professional.
"I'll miss you so much, my dear friend."

My first concert (my brother took me) was the 'Mob Rules' tour. I had always loved the Rainbow stuff with Dio and it was great to hear him live. Wow!!
For all the Dio fans----some of his best singing was on two songs from a Kerry Livgren (Kansas) album before Kerry formed A.D.
I had this on vinyl and never found it elsewhere. Maybe iTunes has them, either way try and check them out if you can find them. Loved him on these tunes.........

RIP, a true god of metal. It makes me sad that I never saw him live.

just to let you know that i heard a song today on Shawn Brownings facebook page(hes the lead vocalist for Grave Robber~Wretched) from that era!

So my day at school was starting off fairly good and I was in high spirits. I go outside on break and see my metal friend Bob and go to greet him and this is how it turned out:

Me: Hey Bobby!
Bob: Dio's dead!
Me: .......

What a downer that was. One of the greatest vocalists EVER and the Grandfather of metal has left this world. Sad news indeed and I'm glad I had the chance to see him live twice before he left us. R.I.P

Listened to some DIO today and also picked up some stuff I didn't have.

Very sad to hear. I lost a Grandmother to cancer when I was young. I listened to some Dio going in to work this morning. One of the last ones to play as I got there was "Hungry For Heaven".

Im not a fan but I do reconize his influence and contributions musically, so all I can say is RIP Mr Dio but I loved one line he sang in the Tenacious D movie

I have been listening some dio albums that haven't give a proper chance, and I have been enjoying them alot. Specially lock up the wolfs. X Rest in peace Dio
