Man, this is really sad news. Though I was lucky enough to see Dio live 2 times, I still think I missed out not seeing Heaven & Hell.
R.I.P. one of the Grandfathers of Metal, Ronnie James Dio.

Been listening to Heaven and Hell alot since RJD's passing. When I was a kid I used to ride my bike to the library to check it out, play it endlessly, ride back up there with it to re-check it out over and over again. This album just totally captured me and is still (imo) one of the top 5 plain ol' metal albums ever. Timeless metal.
At the end of the song heaven and hell there was this skip in the acoustic part. I played that LP so much that even today when I play the cd I keep expecting that part to skip---even after 30 years. Too funny. Makes me grin.

At Kareokee tomorrow night I will be doing a Dio song in his honor and give him a shout out (I want to do Heaven & Hell but the selection is limited so I will play it by ear, I'd do a Rainbow song but at this bar they only have songs from the post Dio era).

Eddie Trunk's recent Sirius XM show was a tribute to Ronnie. Full show (minus the music) is posted here: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=140254

So we all knew he had stomach cancer, but does anyone know any details further. I mean there was reports that he was beating this thing, then the canceled tours this summer was "due to chemo, and Ronnie needed time to recover". Did something go wrong in like a day or so and his body just shut down? I am so confused how all reports looked great but then we all wake up and he is dead.
I know I may sound stupid..."He had Stomach Cancer Mez you idiot!!!" but I had the impression he was doing very well. I just feel the left and right hook form this, maybe I was just naive, but it really has me stumped...no less bummed.

In that link I posted above, Jeff Pilson mentions that he took a turn for the worse in the last few weeks. He and Eddie both talk about how there would be "scares" every now and then but it always turned out to be the chemo that was affecting him. It's really sad watching that Golden Gods Awards clip on Eddie's page when Eddie tells him "get better and go sing" and Dio says "I will".
Not to downplay Ronnie but I almost feel silly for how much this has affected me. I'm not a family member or friend, I never met him... I never even saw him in concert but I've been thinking about this ever since the new broke. Sometimes you hear about celebrities passing and you're just like "that sucks" and then you move on but that isn't the case with Ronnie. It really has affected me.
The power of music, man. Not to mention that he's always seemed like such a great person whenever I watched or read an interview with him.

Same, been very sad about this on and off since it happened. Though I suppose it can shine a light on how compassionate we likely need to be in general. If we observe our reactions to the plight of a public figure, so should we when anyone suffers in that public light, really. Tons of horrible stories each day to think well towards and pray on.

I heard a good portion of that show Monday night. Thought it was a very touching tribute to RJD.

I know what you mean Metal Misfit, it is like I lost a close friend which is in some ways is silly but I don't care I loved the man's music and during my misfit teenage years he helped (thru his music) make life not only tolerable but enjoyable. I am glad got to see him concert three times (2x with Black Sabbath) and once with Dio, excellent shows and one of the best vocalist in rock history IMO.

Whoa, didn't know this existed. "Electra" or is it "Elektra", which was going to be played on that short Dio tour last fall and was meant to be on Magica II:
EDIT: I see now it was included on the Tournado box set.

I really liked the Craig Goldy segment. Very touching at the end with Craig telling Eddie that Ronnie loved him.

OK prepare yourself for a very detailed idea of how fast this killed a recovering RJD. This came to a shock to almost everyone, there wasnt any major warnings how fast this killed him.
Very sad! - http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=140298
However thanks to Geezer for giving some light to this confusing and tragic event.

LOS ANGELES — Black Sabbath bassist Terry "Geezer" Butler reminisced about his last moments with friend and bandmate Ronnie James Dio in a statement released Tuesday. Also Tuesday, Dio's family announced that a public memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on May 30 in the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. In his statement, Butler recounted his final days with the singer, who died May 16 of stomach cancer at age 67. The two performed together in Heaven and Hell, the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath. Butler said he shared his last laugh and received his final e-mail from Dio on May 12, then went to visit him May 15 at the hospital along with "25 to 30 friends." "We knew the end was imminent," Butler wrote. "We all wanted to say our goodbyes." Butler said the day was filled with tears and reflection. "In the evening, the chaplain came, and we all gathered around Ronnie's bed and prayed," Butler wrote. "At 11 p.m., most of us left, leaving Wendy her privacy to say her last farewell. The devastation was palpable." Butler added that Dio was a "special person, blessed with a unique voice and presence." He ended his statement thanking Dio "for the wonderful memories." In addition to his wife, Wendy, Dio is survived by son Daniel, grandchildren Julie and Joey, and father Pat.

That is a very very nice tribute to Dio.

With Ronnie James Dio's death I am assuming that Black Sabbath (Heaven and Hell) has written its final chapter unless they patch things with Ozzy.

I suspect sometime in the next year they'll announce another reunion. Even if Ozzy never returns, I would love to see Tony, Geezer and a drummer of their choice carry on as a NEW band with a different singer. No joke, I'd love for Tony Martin to work with Iommi again.
