Sad. What a loss.

How can this be, it is a break/halt in our metal lives. Peter Steele gone this year and now RJD. Not to compare but obviously RJD will impact many more people, but still 2 great loses this year.

I honestly am just in shock, speechless. I wish we all had better warning than this. Sure we knew he had stomach cancer, but they never said what level. Level 0 and Level 1 are curable and survivable. Level 2 is a 5 year lease on life and all else is fast to the ground. All reports made it sound like they caught it in time, last month the reports were the main tumor was small now and showing signs of defeat. Dio was positive and mentioned that he was doing good. Heck the report on the canceled tours was for his recovery and that there is still lots of life and music left in him.

Today we find ourselves empy, shocked, and personally confused. Where does rock go from here? What does this mean for those of us who had this here since we was young, or heck maybe before we was even born? It was always there, it has given us a time stamp to look back at things, but tells us that further more it will now only be memory. Each album, each band was such a place in our lives growing up.

OK maybe to many beers and Stargazer has caused me to be so depressing, probably shouldnt even post this.

Dio is one of the greatest! This sucks! His music will live on forever though. RIP

I'm kinda in shock here, I don't know what to say. It was bound to happen, but i'm seriously heartbroken...

I think today should become a holiday in his memory.

Dio is a legend and he will be missed! My thoughts are with his family. Losing anyone is terrible and losing someone to cancer is that much worse.

I just found out about this. Really sad. I thought he was getting better? I know that's how cancer works though. Sad. RIP, RJD. You will be missed.

My heart sank when I read this earlier, but then I heard that it was a hoax and I felt better. On my way home from work today, my wife called and told me that he did die, but I told her that it was just a hoax, but she was adamant about it so when I got home I checked and low and behold...I was so excited all day because today was my last day of work for eight whole days, but I've spent this entire evening being depressed and I can't get excited at all about my time off.

Right now I have the dvd of Rainbow Live in Munich 1977 blasting in the background as I type this. I just can't believe that this tiny Italian guy that sang so powerful about dragons, knights and witches and other things that me as a teen loved, is silenced forever.

When you think of all the other people that lived harder and accomplished less, the old adage of "Life isn't fair" pops into your mind, and it just makes you sigh and choke up a bit.

Ronnie James Dio will be truly missed by everyone who ever loved loud guitars and soaring vocals about the mythical. Thanks for everything and may you rest in peace.

Farewell RJD, not just the metal world, but the whole world lost a wonderful person. A truly classy individual. And yes, cancer sucks the big one.

I guess I know what I'm listening to in the car this week. RIP to the voice of metal. Long live the king!

A great character and a human being. But more importantly his music has been a tremendous inspiration in my life. I rank Holy Diver in my top 5 albums ever. The band is in my top ten. I am fortunate enough to have seen them perform live twice.

A sad day. But his music will live on!

Ronnie James Dio had been recording music since the 50s (look up Ronnie Dio and the Prophets). He witnessed the growth of Rock n' Roll over the course of decades, and was right there when metal itself was spawned into this world. He was not just an awesome metal vocalist, he was an awesome vocalist PERIOD.

Sad Indeed. So Long

Seeing him not that long ago on the Heaven & Hell tour will be that much more memorable for me.

Thanks for the music.

Got the chance to see Heaven and Hell twice. There is no other like DIO. I think he gave a very positive message to the rock scene, and God is proud of what he accomplished.

I will greatly miss Dio and the music he gave us. Rest in peace.

It's such a shame I never got to see him live.

Why couldn't it have been Justin Bieber instead?

I never got to see him either, I pray that I will have a another chance to see him on the other side. He better be singing for the man upstairs when I die or thats going to be a heaven I wouldnt want to live in.
