On Monday, Osbourne paid respects to the man who would reshape the legendary heavy metal band. Said Osbourne in a statement: "I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie James Dio. Oh yea, I remember that.
Maybe I missed it, but has Vivian Campbell released any kind of statement on the passing? He's the only person I know to have had something bad to say about Dio. You'd think maybe he'd put out something like "Well, we didin't always agree, but he was a decent guy, etc. etc." Wonder if Viv still holds a grudge?

He may have seemed like the nicest guy ever, but don't cross him, otherwise you will get a tongue lashing.
I also feel that he was the kind of person that told all of that to Vivian face to face. He was too old to pull punches.

He left us with so much. That voice that never failed him, and of course, the horns.
take care, Ronnie, we will miss you, no doubt.

He should of at least lived to 80 so he could have enjoyed his retirement...
He was taken too soon.

Did anyone read Bill Ward's official statement on Dio's passing? It's kinda cold and disconnected which is odd for Bill. He usually always gets emotional... but this one was cold and very short. He was near poetic when he addressed Peter Steele's death...

It was cordial and respectful, I don't really see a problem with it. Just comes across that it's not something he really wants to publicly (if at all) talk about, which I can understand having had a recent death in my family. Funny, I just recently read an interview Ward did a few weeks ago where he said Ronnie was the reason he didn't last in H&H. Dio didn't like his playing.

I did Heaven & Hell at kareokee in tribute to Dio last night but bombed due to forgeting the opening melody for the 1st verse and the CD/program skipping. I aplolgised for not doing Dio justice and decided to do another song and I picked Don't Talk To Stragers which started a little off but I belted it out to the best of my ability and gave a double devil horn salute to the sky. I only wish I had the entire performance recorded but I ran out of memory and it was cut off right after the guitar solo. However, I felt like I did Dio justice.

Well I think that he only played with him a short time, because Bill was having chemical problems and left half way through the tour for the Heaven and Hell album. So he probably has fuzzy memories of him anyway. Who knows for sure though?

5/20/10: Wow, I have never had more email come my way in my life then the last few days. I thank you all greatly for the kind words and support, but please understand with everything going on, plus fighting a nasty cold, I simply can not respond to them all. But I appreciate the amazing feedback to my Dio tribute Monday on my satellite show. You guys are just awesome and it means the world to me that you listen, watch and care about what I do as much as I do. I really have felt the spirit of RJD in so many ways the last few days. Lot's to update so here we go: *The Q104/syndicated tribute show will happen tomorrow night at 11PM on 104.3 FM in the NY tri-state and anywhere in the USA free online at www.q1043.com. Please note due to internet laws the stream can not be accessed from computers outside the USA, but you can hear it online outside of the US the next weekend as usual on the KNAC replays. Of course this show also airs on all affiliates usual time and place the next weekend as well. Since the Q104 show has less time in it than the Sirius/XM show I want to maybe focus a little more on Dio music tomorrow night. The satellite show was amazing and every guest was awesome, but in this one I might spend a little more time on the Dio music legacy. I did however invite some guests to check in so we will see. *Thanks to David Hinckley of the NY Daily News for doing a story on Ronnie yesterday and interviewing me for it and plugging the radio tributes. *Saturday will be a huge day, much of it Dio related. Starting at 10PM VH1 Classic will air the Golden Gods Metal Awards from L.A. In this show Dio makes his last public appearance and wins singer of the year. There is footage from the red carpet on the home page. The show starts with a pre show hosted by me, Don & Jim, then the awards themselves. We present Album Of The Year. Please note: we did not pick the winners! The awards iare followed by an all new TMS from LA with Rob Halford. Then at 11:30 the premiere of an all new special I just hosted for VH1 Claasic called "Dedicated To Dio". This is a 30 minute special featuring unseen interviews, videos and some thoughts from me about Ronnie's greatness. So don't miss a massive metal night this Saturday starting at 10 on VH1 Classic. *I am honored to have been asked to speak at the Dio Memorial in L.A. next Sunday. I will and have told the Dio camp anything they need I'm there. Info on the public event is on this site and I look forward to joining with all those that loved Ronnie in LA on 5/30 which will no doubt be a special day.

That was half of the problem, the other was that Bill lost both of his parents in less than a year, the depression of which increased the drinking, etc.
I have one live bootleg from when Ward was still in the band on the tour for H&H, sounded great...that boot even has Dio singing Sweet Leaf!

Now that it has been a week, and it really doesnt seem like the steam of this has died any. I mean we all are shocked by this, but given the reality has set in for me, I cant help but think this was probably how he would have wanted to go. I just dont think he would have stopped till something took him, as which is this case. He never spoke of retirement, and he did get offended by the mention of his age. (Check footage of him bashing a fan for asking his true age). Not that his age mattered to us anyhow.
I would have loved for him to finish the last 2 Dio albums and one more H&H album, and I think we all feel robbed of this, but I find comfort in knowing he did what he loved to the very end. He never had to grow old in his 70's or 80's and be lonely/sad that he could no longer do it. He just seemed like he didnt want to ever stop and if he did, I think it would have bothered him. So sad he is gone, and you know I may be way off the mark, but he never faded out. His light was there and one morning we all woke up and he was gone.

Here is a link to Ronnie's last song ever. It was recorded about a month ago and was the last thing Ronnie did in the studio. The final version will be polished and released later in the year on 'The Rods' new studio album.

Anyone hear "Elektra" yet? Or maybe it's "Electra," I don't know. Apparently it's a demo that was slated for Magica II.
