The last handful of Megadeth albums are what happens when a band caves to the demands of fans to go back in time. Same with the latest Metallica album. The albums are competent and good listens, but they lack heart.

I dont know about that - I thought Endgame was pretty engaging and entertaining.

Endgame sounded really good the first 2 times I heard it, then the threadbare nature of the songwriting became apparent and I lost interest. I've listened to most of the recent Megadeth albums and they all strike me that way, I have to go all the way back to Countdown To Extinction to find stuff I really like...except for some of their live recordings.

With the exception of The System Has Failed, which I still think is a great album, Megadeth became really hit and miss with The World Needs A Hero onwards. System probably worked because it didn't seem like Dave was desperately trying to pander to fans' opinions.

Personally I still love 'Endgame' and think it is one of their strongest albums.

Totally agree. I listened to the last couple albums a few times and kept wondering when a great song would happen.

I loved about half of TSHF, and only after I read the credits, I learned that Ellefson wasn't on it, so maybe that was why it felt like it lacked something.

What is it that 49 year old men should sing about?

Don't get me wrong, I like every Megadeth album except Risk, which isn't bad but aside from a handful of tunes is largely forgettable. However, if I'm going to listen to Megadeth, I'm going to go for Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, Cyrptic Writings, which are their best four albums, in my opinion.

United abominations is not their best, but remains one hell of a metal album.

I love sleepwalker and washington is next. Those riffs are splendid.

Good man. Rust In Peace and Youthanasia are tied favourites for me, but few people seem to enjoy Youthanasia as much. I don't understand why though. Yes, the pace has been dropped but it's been replaced by slow, crushing heaviness and a penchant for melodic writing that just isn't present on any other Megadeth release. Songs like 'Reckoning Day', 'Addicted To Chaos' and 'Family Tree' are amongst my favouirte Megadeth compositions.

"Addicted to Chaos" is my favorite Mega tune. Oddly enough, "A Tout le Monde" is probably my least favorite.
