| Metallica - St. Anger
I don't know how but I actually fell in love with this album. I put it in the cd player not knowing what to expect. After listening to it all the way through I realized it was a very versatile disc. It had some killer moments like when I used it as a Frisbee with some friends. I never knew a Metallica cd was so great for burning calories. It also helped me with target practice. I put my BB gun sight on it and fired away. I will never forget the joy I got out of that disc.

- I think I also like it so much because if you read the lyrics, Roger is starting to crack. His world was crumbling and he was trying his hardest to maintain his faith. I thought he was most human on this album, and I still, to this day, look up to ol' Rog.
Can you specifically point out in the lyrics the part you're talking about him cracking? I looked the lyrics over and they just seem to all be about warning about God's wrath and judgement.

| Metallica - Death Magnetic The more I listen the more I like it. I didn't really think people ragged on this one much, other than not liking the mastering, which is a bit too loud. Once Dead - Visions Of Hell I like it a lot. Yup, it's raw and the snare drum is gnarly sounding, but I still like it. Great guitar work. I dig the old Vengeance vibe.
Vengeance Rising - Destruction Comes Like this one too. "Before the Time" rules! Love the video for that one as well.
Metallica - St. Anger Not so much! Although "Frantic" is a cool song. A better recording and a guitar solo would improve the song 100%. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

Universally panned as "piling on without musical merit". The first time I listened to this one, I ended up crankin' it way loud all the way to the end. Some of the best riffage Alien has come up with. And, lyrically, I found it a good mental release. Overall, my fav only behind Land of Rape and Honey. |

Great album. Iced Earth-The Glorious Burden Ok, i'm a Ripper fanboy but this has some great anthemic metal on it. I think most people that don't like can't get past the fact it's not Matt. |

Its an ok album at best. I cant get past the fact that its not memorable to me. Jon has really went downhill on his songwriting abilities and is trying to make up for it with orchestration. It has nothing to do with Ripper he is a killer vocalist, the songs just arent memorable.

| DIO - Dream Evil A return to form for Dio, in my opinion. "Dream Evil" is much darker and heavier than "Sacred Heart." The songs have better hooks as well. The guitar playing is outstanding and Ronnie is Ronnie! "Sunset Superman," "Night People" and "All the Fools Sailed Away" are all standout cuts on par with anything from "Holy Diver" or "Last in Line". _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

That IE was the first one I heard. The propaganda spoiled IE for me forever. People tell me to listen to the early albums, and I have a couple laying around here, but I just can't do it. I'm in your Ripper Fanboy club, though!! One of the best metal singers of all time, on my list. |

| Def Leppard-Slang- I think this is a great album, the songs are great, they were not afaird to play with their successful formula, a wrote a classic modern (for its time) metal album while not totally abandoning the pop element that creeped in and has dominated their sound since, the title track is weakest track on the album and IMO the wrong first single to release. Metallica-Load- Alot of fans hate this album, too poppu, too commerical, too geared toward radio blah blah blah, all true, but Metallica brought songs to the party which is what it should be about. Not as good as their earlier albums but still a good album IMO. Guns N Roses-Spaghetti Incident?- Love this album, an album of covers of some favorite punk, metal, glam bands done Guns n Roses style, also responsible for introducing me to the great UK Subs, The Dead Boys, and inspiring to dig out my old T. Rex vinyl out of the archives. | |

This one. I bought this on a whim and was sure it was going to be a stinker from what I'd heard, but I ended up playing the hell out of. There are some amazing covers on there, like 'Down on the Farm', 'Human Being' and 'I Don't Care About You' among others. Megadeth - YouthanasiaI see this one getting ripped on a lot for it apparently being Megadeth's attempt at the commercialism that led to Cryptic Writings and Risk but I think that's unfair. Yes, it's slower and yes, it's more melodic, but it's far heavier than Countdown ever was. The speed is gone for the most part, there's a bit more groove and melancholy throughout the entire album. Really, one of my all time favourites. _________________

| Aerosmith-Done with Mirrors-Another album I love, like it better than the later more commerically successful albums, it is a raw rock album with such classics as 'My Fist Your Face' 'Gypsy Boots' and their remake of Joe Perry Project classic 'Let the Music Do the Talking'. Steven Tyler's vocals sound raw and his lyrics are filled with all sorts of socially unacceptable behaviour. Joe Perry riffing like his in search of that lost cord, also one of Tyler's best lines. "The Reason a Dog has so Many Friends/He wags his tail instead of his Tongue' Iggy Pop-Blah Blah Blah-Reteams with David Bowie, who produces this pop masterpiece, includes his version of "Wild Child" , one of his best ballads "Shades' and Steve Jones even sombers up enough to contribute a few guitar licks and a song writing credit or two. | |

I never got the criticism of that one either. They certainly weren't the 1st band to do so, but they put out this covers album before it suddenly became the "thing to do" and they chose some interesting covers at that. And like Manny, it opened up my ears (and wallet) to some bands that I didn't know much or anything about back then. I remember a friend of mine at the time was very offended that GnR would cover punk songs. "They aren't punks, how dare they!?!" _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

That's Jon for you though and it was pretty close to 9/11. It's also about war in general and I think the songs are very catch. Green Face sticks in my head and Attila and When The Eagle Cries are classic. - Quote :

me again ~ Yeah - There was a definate underlying "Manifest Destiny" bs vibe to the whole thing. I don't know how Jon actually feels, but I made it to 40 yrs old by living off instinct and vibes. They are almost always on target. So I just don't have time to listen or support stuff I don't agree with [and I have also heard the covers album - the title is not coming to me right now - but I thought that was really mediocre at best, as well. And those tunes are pretty difficult to make mediocre]. Too much obscure anti-fascist German crossover to track down [ha!]. |

| Van Halen - Balance
Eddie's playing is still at its peak here. Thick, heavy guitar tone and some great riffs make this a heavy record. "Baluchitherium" is the first instrumental since 1984, and it is a welcome sight. Eddie plays with so much emotion on this song. It's the best instrumental by Van Halen.
