| No maybe in that equation MetalRob. It IS the most talented rock band ever assembled!
I will agree with previous posts about 2112 and Moving Pictures. Those are probably 2 of their best, but they are all good.
If you really want to hear the band man, just get the Chronicles album. Its got some amazing songs on it and really spans their career from the start to 1989.

| I also suggest to anyone who is starting out with a band that has a history as long as Rush to start out with a comp. collection, all the suggestions on individual CDS given on this thread is spot on, but there is a greatest hits package titled 'Chronicles' that gives an excellent overview. It does not explore deep cuts but it does give you their most popular songs and maybe it entice you buy the others. Also another comp releases called 'Gold' which splits up the first two eras of Rush, disc one is 1974-1981 and 1981-1987. | |

Chronicles is an excellent collection (not enough for a die-hard like me, but a good starter disc). I much prefer it to Gold because it's in chronological order. |

| My Take: if you dont like or appreciate 70's rock then dont even waste your time. If you are into 70's rock then their is no reason you shouldnt like Fly By Night, Caress, and 2112. If you say you are a DT fan and like 70's rock, then you could go as far as Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, and Permanent Waves. If you like what you hear by now, then you will think Moving Pictures is the greatest album ever at this point. After this, proceed at your own risk. But maybe you should start with Gold or Greatest Hits, although most of my favorite Rush tracks are not radio hits. My faves are extended length prog-rockers like Cygnus X-1, Camera Eye, Side 1 of 2112, side 1 or Hemispheres, Natural Science, Bytor, Necromancer, Fountain Of Lamneth, etc... | |

Great album and has killer cuts like the title track, Anthem, In The End and the aforementioned By Tor and the Snow Dog. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I can definitely understand not liking Geddy's voice. In fact, since ball-less, castrato vocals are one thing I absolutely hate, I really can't explain why Geddy's vocals don't annoy me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I can see how Geddy's vocals could turn some people off, but I love them. I think he's a good (not great) vocalist. The music is top notch.... Some do it different, but none better, IMO.

| I prefer their early stuff. Their 80's material was ultra commercial, and to me it lacked the rock intensity of the first few albums. I think recently they have settled into a nice groove that sits somewhere between their 70's and 80's material. Tom Sawyer is an amazing song. |

Glad to see 'All the Worlds A Stage' on your list. Any live album with FEEDBACK is a must !!! The version of 'Bytor and The SnowDog' is ripping!!... From their later period with a return to guitar based stuff I would say check out 'Counterparts', 'Vapor Trails' and most definatley their latest studio disc 'Snakes and Arrows'... SAA's is one of their top five discs I believe.... best disc since 'Moving Pictures'.... did I say that !!! Well it defintaley ranks up there... 'Malignant Narcisism', 'Far Cry', 'Working Them Angels', 'Faithless'....'Wind Blows....' great stuff..... I've always liked 'Signals' from 82 and get either 'A Farewell to Kings' or 'Hemispheres'... Both of those discs have longer tunes. 'Hemispheres' has the 18 minutes of one song... not broken up like 2112. geddy is pulling notes from the stratosphere with that one..... Great band, should be in the Rock n Roll hall of fame.....

| If you like their rawk (esp. 2112) but lack patience with some of the proggier stuff, you might check out the band "Budgie", a similar helium three piece. While I love 2112, I like Budgie better than Rush, and remember Budgie came first! | |

| Well I picked up a bunch of Rush cds this weekend Vapor Trails Grace Under Pressure (remaster) Snakes and Arrows 2112 (remaster) Caress Of Steel (remaster) Permanent Waves (remaster) Fly By Night (remaster) Feedback Counterparts So far I listened to 2112, Permanent Waves, and Fly By Night and Caress Of Steel. So far the only one I wasnt too crazy about was Caress Of Steel. Otherwise I cant believe I never started picking up their albums earlier. Geddy Less voice doesnt bother me at all. Thanks for everyones input! _________________ | |
