Okay, so I think I'm going to give this band a serious try. I've always been sort of turned off by Lee's vocals; but I once said the same thing about Brian Johnson and Bon Scott, but now I love AC/DC.
So I'm interested in trying a Rush album, but one without any hit song on it. Which one should I try?

That's easy.
2112.

I would suggest you begin with "Hemispheres" or "Fly By Night"...but really anything before "Hold Your Fire" is a great starting point.....
Not that the after albums are bad, just not quite the same...

He wanted no hits. Fly by Night has the title track that was a quasi hit.
The closest thing to a hit on 2112 is Passage To Bangkok.

Hemispheres. No real hits, and the best song on that one has no vocals in it.

Yeah, Hemispheres is a good recommendation too.
I still prefer 2112 though.

Man, just get the greatest hits. Their old albums have some classic songs but also a fair share of filler.

Somehow I don't think a GH compilation fits that requirement.
And if you think albums like Fly By Night, 2112 or Hemispheres have a lot of "filler" on them, you're even more tone-deaf than I believed.

2112 Hemispheres
Plus I think the best start is A Farewell to Kings, even though it has Closer to the Heart, it is hard to ask for any album that doesnt have at least one hit on it, and I am pretty sure that was the only hit on that album but it was a phenomenal album.
A challenging album would be Caress of Steel, by far the strangest of them all and pretty much no hits on that.

Not really. They seem to have one filler song per album.

Yeah, no hits. I know those songs and want to see if unknown material will allow me to get used to Lee's vocals. I'm not sure why I dislike his sound so much, especially since I listen to far worse vocalists and dig them.
So 2112, eh? Just requested on SwapaCD. Of course, it isn't available now. =(

If 2112 doesn't get you used to Lee's vocals, I doubt anything will.
2112 features some lengthy instrumental passages which should allow you to appreciate the band's musicianship before Geddy opens his mouth.
I totally understand the aversion to Geddy Lee's vocals; definitely an acquired taste.

Back in 87 or so when I was a kid, my neighbor played them all the time and I thought Geddy sounded like a chick. However without forcing myself to find a common ground and just hearing it, I got used to his voice and eventually realized his voice and the teamwork and style they have all come together so well you take it in full circle and it spins well.
Dont force yourself to try and enjoy his vocals, maybe try to dig the music style and even enjoy the lyrics and you may find that in time you begin to enjoy the signature sound of his voice.
I personally hated, hmmm LOATHED Coheed and Cambria for the voice, but by the third album, something changed and I hit that common ground so many of my friends had been from the get go, but it began with the music for me, not the voice.
Just a suggestion.

Great song but that album also has the title cut which was a "hit".
Fly By Night is my second favorite Rush album behind 2112.

Im a RUSH fan....to the point that I'd say even their "not so great" albums are great....
I didnt embrace "test For Echo", "Counterparts" or "Hold Your Fire" initially, but over time I have grown to see they're good albums....just not the same as those early classics.
I also am very fond of "Presto"....."The Pass" is one of my favorite RUSH tunes...

After Moving Pictures, I gave up on Rush.
Too much keyboard and prog vibe for me. But the early Rush albums are classics IMO.

The first 6 Rush cds are essential IMO. Now there is documentry coming out this summer and from what I've seen it looks fantastic. In fact VH1 is showing it on June 26th.

I have a feeling you'll like Roll the Bones especially the title track since you like rap metal. Snakes and Arrows is their best album since Presto, Signals is Rush's best album with synersizers. Also give Presto a try.
Anyway Geddy Lee's vocals take awhile getting used to
