So apparently Menza was that "mystery" drummer on that video posted by Dave's son.

Former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza has released the following statement:
"To my fans, I hate disappointing all of you who have been asking and hopeful that Marty Friedman and I would rejoin [MEGADETH's] Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson to resurge the classic 'Rust In Peace' lineup.
"I was totally ready and excited to get back in MEGADETH. I went to Dave's house/studio in San Diego this past December and we jammed for the weekend and it was totally cool. We instantly fell right back into our musical groove together.
"We have great chemistry. It's a magical thing! And, yes, that's me, the 'mystery' drummer whose face is hidden in the YouTube videos Justis Mustaine [Dave's son] posted as seen below.
"A few weeks after this, we all got together with our old manager Ron Laffitte for a dinner meeting at the Anaheim White House restaurant during NAMM. It was great seeing Ron and Marty. We all talked about the plans for a new record and touring and I made it known I was into rejoining and making this my priority. I was pumped, and even went as far as recording drums on five new MEGADETH songs Dave had sent me.
"As soon as I got home and it was time to sit down and negotiate my terms in writing, I was offered a very unfair deal that was so wrong. They didn't feel I was worth anything to the band. Dave blocked my emails, changed his number and then, apparently, Ron Laffitte was fired as the band's manager. Here is one of my favorite bands and a huge part of my life achievements and I was shut out for wanting a fair deal.
"I am really blown away how this band conducts business.
"A band is about a group of people who have respect for one another, sense of loyalty, camaraderie, and most of all honor and trust!
"I'm not a puppet I have integrity, loyalty, and honor. That's who I am!
"There's much more to this story, and I could now add the final chapter to my book 'Nick Menza Megalife: Countdown To Resurrection', by J. Marshall Craig.
"Despite this dark final chapter, I wish MEGADETH the heartiest of health, happiness and success with their future plans. As for me, I am moving on with a new band of other fellow former 'DETH members [James LoMenzo and Chris Poland], as well as a few surprise players, and producer ."

Man, Dave really is a creep! I've been a first week buyer of Megadeth's albums, but I'm going to skip this next one. It wasn't like I enjoyed "Supercollider", as I've only listened to that a few times. I figured the video that Justin Mustaine posted back in December had to be of Nick Menza, which makes the new revelations that Dave Mustaine has posted, regarding the band's future, even more disappointing. The fact that they were even going to bring Ron Laffitte back into the fold would have been great as well, as the band's biggest successes were under his reign. I've been a hypocrite the majority of my teenage and adult life as it relates to turning a blind eye to those I give money to in this genre, by lining their bank accounts, whether it be through the purchase of albums, concert tickets, t-shirts/posters bought, even though I can't stand that individual.
I like David Ellefson, but I hope that this next album totally bombs, and I hope the following tour is a total train wreck financially! One would think Dave has had enough humble pie served to him in his life, but apparently not.

Sounds like the whole deal that went down between Black Sabbath and Bill Ward.
As the potential profit for albums and tours continues to diminish, bandleaders become even more greedy than usual because of how small the available pie is.
I read that statement from Menza with very mixed emotions.
On the one hand Megadeth have been one of my favourite bands since I first got into metal back around 1991 and apart from Risk and SC I've loved every album. If Menza's statement is true this leaves a really bad taste in my mouth and I would not be comfortable supporting Mustaine by handing over cash for the album or a ticket for the next tour. On the other hand from what I've read from Mustaine on Facebook lately I have a feeling this new album will be in a similar vein to endgame and does the behind the scenes politics really have to interfere with my enjoyment of listening to the new album or seeing them live.
It's a tough one for me as loads of bands I like are full of douche bags and people I suspect I wouldn't like in real life yet normally I wouldn't care about this sort of stuff and just get on with enjoying the music so why does this bother me so much.
Also I'm sure I read in Mustaine's book that previously Menza wanted a way better deal and more money than anyone thought he deserved so unless the full details of the deal he was offered this time are made available how do we know Menza didn't ask for a ridiculously over the top deal.
Tough one really and something that will be playing around in my mind until the album is released and I'll see how I feel then.
It's not easy being a fan of a band or artist and see them for who they really are, but I can't let it tarnish the music.
Was it a crappy thing for the guys in Sabbath to give Bill Ward a bum deal? Sure. I wanted him back behind the kit as much as anyone. But they still put out a great album and I had no qualms about buying that. I was jazzed about the possibility of a Rust In Peace reunion of sorts, but it's not happening. Whatever dick moves Dave did or didn't make behind the scenes isn't going to change my feelings about the overall band or the music they produce.

Yeah, exactly.
How many more concert seats is Menza's name going to be able to sell?
What has he done in 10+ years after leaving MEGADETH? What did he think he was entitled to?
I love his drumming but they can find no-name, hungry players who can do as well. That's what he was when he joined the band! Even DREAM THEATER was able to successfully replace their drummer.
Face it, without Friedman having Menza join doesn't make much economic sense.
Apparently he had his chance to rejoin in 2004 and blew it, according to Drover and Mustaine.
Dave has always treated his bandmates like shit, why is this a surprise to anyone at this point?
It blows my mind to actually see people declaring a boycott when he's screwed over people a lot worse than this in the past. A little late to be jumping on that wagon.

This is the easiest thing I've had to answer all day. When you make choices at earlier stages in your life, because you have no people skills and you were fueled by drugs and alcohol, one can sort of rationalize dickish behavior. With that being said, Dave Mustaine is supposedly clean and sober, has a wife, is the father of two children, a born again Christian, over 50 and he still doesn't get it. It's called evolving as a human being. A good portion of society is able to accomplish this. Dave on the other hand, clearly hasn't. Dave is the kind of individual that takes two steps forward and about five steps back, as it pertains to his people skills.
Do you know what kind of deal he offered Nick or are you taking one side of the story as gospel?
I don't see how you can make a fair judgement call on this.
How much extra $$$ do you think Nick would bring to the Megadeth camp vs. helping out a new unknown drummer who'd like a break?
Nick was fired twice already BTW.
So, if you had to bet house money on this, who's story would you take? Granted, Nick has had his issues, but Dave's version is just that. You have the truth and then there's Dave version. Let me ask you this, why bring Ron Laffitte and Marty's name into it, if there wasn't any truth to this story? Then you had the buildup just prior to the year, with Nick being filmed from the waist down, the friendly tweets from Nick to both Dave's during the holidays (when there hadn't been ANY communication for years prior to the studio footage emerging), the NAMM photos, etc...
People like reunions. As to whether that reunion would work long term, who knows?
Also I'm sure I read in Mustaine's book that previously Menza wanted a way better deal and more money than anyone thought he deserved so unless the full details of the deal he was offered this time are made available how do we know Menza didn't ask for a ridiculously over the top deal.
This.
Wasn't it Menza who wanted a share of the songwriting credits simply for being in the room when Mustaine was writing? So much is made of the 'classic' line up, but they made some of my least favorite Megadeth records. I tend to think that Megadeth needs new blood, not old wounds.
It doesn't make him un-Christian to run his business in a profitable fashion and hire who he wants.
Nick shouldn't consider the position automatically his.
You're absolutely right! It makes him a less of a person to lead people on, only to dismiss them from the blindside. I'll ask the question one more time. Why would Nick bring Ron Laffitte's name up along with Marty's if this weren't the least bit true? It would be one thing for Nick to say that Dave promised him a position and then reneged on the deal, but he didn't say that. Neither one of these guys I would give a squirt of piss for as it relates to being honest, but I'm saying Nick's details of what took place over the past few months seems more accurate, based on the social media activity between him and members of Megadeth.

Exactly. Since when has Nick Menza been the voice of rationality and veracity?
Also, it's Dave's band. He can do what he wants and always has.
This is hardly a fair comparison. Seriously, Nick Menza vs Dave Mustaine regarding the embellishment of historical events. No kidding it's Dave's band. That was never a point of contention. Just because it's Dave's band, doesn't mean he is a great decision maker.

If we were in court, I would object or your line of reasoning as "assuming facts not in evidence." You simply don't know what happened, and neither do I for that matter. My point being that Nick Menza has never comported himself as a particularly truthful witness - nor has Dave Mustaine for that matter. I am simply not willing to judge Dave's actions based on the words of Nick Menza. Ever more so, I simply don't care about the inner machinations of this particular band. Dave will do what he wants and sometimes he puts out good albums. Sometimes not.
I do think the "classic" lineup is way overrated and I don't care if they ever reunite. They really only had one exceptional album. Their other albums varied in quality from good to awful.

Overruled....
The classic lineup might be overrated. My disgust with Dave has nothing to do with him not bringing Marty and Nick back into the fold; it's about Dave and how sad his interpersonal relations have been within his own band and outside of it as well. Like I said before, it was funny years ago, and now it's just sort of sad. I will state it for a third time, it wouldn't behoove Nick at all to bring up Ron Laffitte or Marty in this, unless it was true. If Ron Laffitte and Marty say, Nick's full of shit and this never took place, so be it, then I will say I was wrong. But I bet I'm not...

Who exactly has Dave screwed over? Most of the guys who were in his band made a lot of money (particularly Nick and Marty) and it's always been Dave's vision, his band. Have any of them been particularly successful without him? Did any of them write any Megadeth records? (as is the case with the Ozzy albums) They were great players who did a great job and were well paid. Ellefson thought that he'd been badly treated but the courts found otherwise.
If anything it's Mustaine who has been screwed in the way that the world's biggest metal band tried for years to downplay the influence that he had on them and the whole genre that sprang up around them. But when Dave says as much, he's just accused of being bitter.
I don't know the ins and outs of this latest saga, but at the end of the day I think Mustaine was foolish to attempt a reunion (for the second time)
