Youthanasia was there last decent album until United Amobinations. Cryptic to me was a continuation of Youthanasia imo. Yes it was slower but Youthanasia still was there attempt at commercial success and radio hits.

Fine album. I was just listening to it last week. Since you got the ball rolling... 1. Youthanasia 2. The System Has Failed 3. Cryptic Writings 4. Countdown to Extinction 5. Rust In Peace 6. Peace Sells... 7. United Abominations 8. The World Needs A Hero 9. Risk 10. So Far, So Good... 11. Killing Is My Business... Not that I would call ANY of their albums bad. This is just my order of preference.

| My Megadeth collection would look something like this:
1. Peace Sells 2. Rust In Peace 3. a compilation of tracks from So Far So Good and Killing Is My Business
That's all I'd ever need. |

| According to Dave the new album will open with an instrumental similar to "Into The Lungs Of Hell" and there's a song called "The Hardest Part Of Letting Go" | |

That is very cool, I am glad they are burying the hatchet, too many years of Metallica vs Megadeth, bad mouthing etc, I like both bands.

| I gotta lotta love for 'The World Needs A Hero'. It's one of several of Megadeth's long string of Black Albums.
I think I mighta said this before on this thread, but it's worth reiterating.
Everyone was really ecstatic that Metallica had their big, bad Black Album. Great album, indeed. The perfect album at the perfect time. As far as Metallica moved towards the mainstream, the mainstream audience had moved towards Metallica. It was a true compromise and it changed the landscape, permitting other Metal bands to get their time in the sun.
All of a sudden, Real Heavy Metal, not Twisted Sister, Def Leppard or Quiet Riot became acceptable. The Black Album had probably three or four tracks, which weren't specifically written with radio in mind, but which NOW had mainstream potential. BUT, only because the RULES had just changed. Metallica didn't sell out like some like to say. They changed the rules of what was acceptable in mainstream, musical culture.
The DJs had been asked for so long to play something from Metallica, but they felt that there really wasn't much that they could extract from them. There wasn't anything along the lines of a single. The Black Album at least gave them a few options.
But, it really was a matter of the times. Perfect album at the perfect time. Since Countdown To Extinction, Megadeth have released one after another of their own 'Black Albums'. Each release has been stocked with straight-up, real Heavy Metal tracks which not only rocked incredibly hard, but was really accessible...plenty of hooks reaching out and pulling in the listener. Plenty of catchy, memorable melodies is what Dave delivered...consistently.
Every Megadeth recording since 1992 has been full...well, they contained at least three or four tracks which could have their own decent run as singles. But, aside from 1992 and 1994, this just never happened. Radio stations, at least here in New York, gave some limited airplay to Countdown and Younthanasia, but nothing after that.
I remember something similar happening with Anthrax, but it was only a one album run. The local NY station played the songs 'Only' and 'Room for One More' from their 1993, 'Sound of White Noise'...I remember it was a very cool time for music because they also gave some airtime to things like Pantera's Far Beyond Driven and Sabbath's Cross Purposes, amongst other current Metal releases.....but, when the next Anthrax recording rolled around, an album easily with more accessible, radio-friendly tunes than the prior one, the station completely snubbed it. Don't getitit.
The window that Metallica had opened up for other Metal bands didn't begin to inch close around this time, it just flat out slammed shut, yo. What had been in vogue just mere moments before was now, yet again, taboo. And, the really weak part about it is that Megadeth just continued to release one after another of these really accesible Black-type albums. Even as recent as 2001, with the release of 'The World Needs A Hero', we got another full slate of really accessible songs, but with no radio format that would touch it, apart from late night college radio. |

I find that's pretty much how I feel except it still doesn't excuse that Load / Reload crap

| Dave seems to be real high on the new second lead guitarist, Chris Broderick. What do you guys think of him. After watching the Blood in the Water concert, I was impressed by his playing ability. Is he just as good in the other live shows you guys have seen?

All I have to say is, never get to invested with any Megadeth member beyond that of Dave. Here today, gone tomorrow. The official count of ex/current members 21 They've had more members than you've had years under your belt.

| I never really cared that much for Glen Drover, so Chris Broderick is a welcome change. Incredibly talented guitarist, nails every note live. However, having seen him both with Megadeth and Nevermore, I really wish he was still in the latter. He seemed so much better suited for Nevermore. _________________ | |
