"Eurocrime! The Italian Cop and Gangster Films That Ruled the '70s" (2012)
Inspired by American hits like "Dirty Harry," "The French Connection," "Death Wish" and "The Godfather," the Italian movie industry cranked out so many low budget, ultra-violent cops and robbers action flicks during the '70s that they eventually became a legitimate sub-genre of their own, known as "Eurocrime" or "Poliziotteschi" movies. This engrossing, entertaining documentary goes behind the scenes of Italy's decade-long fascination with blood-splattered cop flicks full of square-jawed heroes, shootouts, car chases, fistfights and half naked women. Dozens of genre actors and directors are interviewed, including Franco Nero, John Saxon, Henry Silva, Fred Williamson, Chris Mitchum, Richard Harrison, Enzo Castellari, and Antonio Sabato, all with great stories to tell. This informative doc came along at the right time for me, as I am just beginning to explore this particular film genre. By the time it was over I'd added several dozen titles to my list of films to check out!

Did a Christmas double feature of Christmas Vacation and Elf then finished off season 2 of The Man In The High Castle.

And still no "Santa's Slay" again this year. You make me sad.

I can't find that anywhere. I've never seen it broadcast on any network (premium or otherwise) and it's not streaming on Netflix. I could check Amazon Prime and see what they're charging for it.

I just searched on my cable system for Santa's Slay and it is available with Streampix, whatever that is. I don't have it with my package.

It's available on Amazon.
Or next year I could just send you my DVD copy and you can send it back. That would probably cost less than paying for a stream.

"Weapons of Death" (aka "Naples Shoot," 1977)
A tough Italian cop kicks ass on a whole lotta goons on his way to capturing the head of the local Mob in this follow up to "Violent Naples." "V.N." star Mauricio Merli didn't return, which kinda sucked, but dependable B Movie mainstay Henry Silva makes up for that with his performance as the savage crime boss. "Weapons of Death" turns into a hopeless muddle by the end, like most Italian flicks, but up till then it's fast moving and has several memorable scenes of carnage - including a castration (ouch!) and a decapitation-by-wire, making for a satisfyingly ultra violent polizzioteschi entry.

"Sheba, Baby" (1975)
In Pam Grier's final "blaxploitation" movie, she plays a tough Chicago P.I. who goes back home to Louisville when her family business is endangered by loan sharks. Pam looks great, but otherwise this is pretty standard guns-and-gangsters stuff, with the usual funky soundtrack and (of course) hilariously dated fashions and slang. Retro action fun.

"Jurassic Attack" aka "Rise of the Dinosaurs" (2013)
A helicopter crash strands an elite Special Forces unit in an uncharted corner of the South American jungle where time stopped 65 million years ago and (very poorly CGI'd) dinosaurs still roam. Can they make it back to the "outside" world before without becoming Dino-Chow? Yet another slab of cheap 'n' cheesy SyFy creature feature schlock.
My 9 year old found this DVD on the "sale" table at our public library this afternoon. We paid a quarter for it. For that price, we couldn't pass it up!

I haven't seen that, or watched the trailers, but are the dinosaurs as bad as they looked in 1997's Future War?

Hey, for a quarter it was totally worth it. Especially since your son "found it". The bonding time watching it was more than worth the price. And good to see your son is continuing the FF tradition of watching crappy movies. Well done sir!

I'm not familiar with "Future War" but from what I can see in that trailer, it looks like they're about even.

Oh yea, we've whiled away many rainy afternoons watching SyFy's stink burgers together. ...and one day last week we went to the local thrift store together, he walked out with two Green Day CD's and DVDs of the original "Halloween" and "Christine." I was like, "He buys CD's AND horror movies? I SHALL CALL HIM... MINI-ME!"

After a two year binge of walking about 3 miles, 5 days a week, the recent cold has forced me back inside and I've rediscovered my elliptical. So I've decided to rewatch the entire Babylon 5 series again.
Such a great show. I started with episode 1 from Season 1 (obviously, duh) and even though I know how everything turns out and I know how the overall story arc plays out over the 5 seasons this show ran, it's still sucked me in again to the point where I can't wait to finish this episode and start the next one tomorrow.
