Anyone offended by that cover should never have been listening to Slayer in the first place.
That's what I'm thinking. To be offended by the cover art but not by the lyrical content of their entire discography is inane. To top it off, actually COLLECTING Slayer but passing this up because it is offensive, yet no more offensive than anything else we've seen from them...well that's just preposterous.

Now's about the time we need MC666 to come in and show us a truly offensive cover.

I'm just more offended by how bland that cover looks. They must really hate Jesus enough to make him look like a potato. How edgy.
Also, the Show No Mercy cover is great stuff. That is way more menacing to the eye than most of their other records.

Intervention and Hell Awaits were some scary shit when I was a kid. And I'll never forget that photo of the kid's arm sliced up in the form of their logo. Eesh.

Here's some trivia for you - the Hell Awaits artwork was a piece of plagiarism:

I'm not offended by the art, but then again, I don't have a relationship with Christ. For myself, it's par for the course with Slayer. Having said that, it's easy to slag on Christianity in this country. Nobody is going to try and lop your head off. If the band (cough cough I mean Kerry) are equal opportunists in their disdain for organized religion and in particular that which is Christianity, then why not tread down another avenue? Starting with Islam. Even though it's conjecture on my part, I'm guessing Kerry would be the type of guy that has strong feelings about that religion. If they really had some stones, they would have Mohammad on their cover. I know this would never happen, because Christianity is such an easy target and they would need an army to protect the band every night on stage. At this point in their career, that album cover is SAFE, because everyone expects it from them.

You said it very well metalinmyveins.
Somehow I don't think Kerry is that tough to bash Islam in a Muslim country.

Kerry has been treading the same tired path (lyrically) forever... Even if a Muslim punched him in the face, he would still be too afraid to write a song against them. He likes to play it safe.

Christianity is also the main religion in this country. It's the country Slayer is from. It's the religion they have had the most exposure to and, consequently, have more disdain for. It's still a very prevalent force in the country, so that's where their ire is aimed. You can hate religion as a whole while still focusing on the one you've had the most exposure to.

This Natas Kaupas deck always evoked the Hell Awaits cover. People were mad at these graphics too in the early 90s.

That sounds good to my ears. I don't see how anyone who's into Slayer could not like it. It sounds like Slayer.

A cool new way to say "lyric video."

Unsurprisingly, it sounds like Slayer. It's hard to tell from a stream but the production sounds like a notch up from the usual, I think Terry Date in the producer chair after 30 years of Rubin might have helped in that area.

Terry Date is one of the best producers in the biz. Getting him was a very wise choice and appears to have paid off.
I think MAIDEN would sound better with him as producer too.
