| Twilight Zone - Season 1, Episode 5 "Walking Distance"
Very pedestrian episode of TZ; I appreciate the idea but it was still pretty dull IMO. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| "3 Days To Kill" (2013) Liam Neeson's not the only guy who can do the "aging bad-ass action hero" thing. Kevin Costner gives it a try here as a veteran CIA agent who's just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. With the little time that he has left, he goes to Paris to finish up some loose ends from his last "job" and also tries to re-connect with his estranged family.
The description sounds depressing but this was actually a darkly funny action-drama. Some of the domestic/family stuff is laid on a little thick but Costner (who I haven't seen in quite a few years) is very good and Amber Heard (yum!) turns up as a femme fatale who gives him mission support. Plus, stuff blows up frequently. I was entertained. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Wife & I just finished the BBC Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth. Just as wonderful as I remember it. A lot of people hemhaw over the near-six-hour length, but really it's six episodes to be viewed like the mini-series it is. Also it moves at an incredible clip, faithful to the novel, and wonderfully acted against the most scrumptious settings. I was a fan of this in high school so it was nice to revisit it, especially on Blu Ray nonetheless. The quality and restoration is outstanding, almost like watching a different film altogether. Literary and history buffs will find this delicious.
Also have been revisiting Farscape. Very cool.

| Twilight Zone: Season 1 disc 2 "Time Enough At Last"
This one still holds up well but the same thing that bothered me the first time I saw it still bothers me. After Burgess Meredith breaks his glasses, why doesn't he wander around looking for destroyed optometrist shops? Surely he could find some lenses that would be good enough to at least let him read his precious books. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| "Beverly Hills Cop" (1984) Eddie Murphy became a bonafide movie star thanks to this classic action comedy, as a Detroit cop who heads to the Hills to solve his buddy's murder. A fast and funny movie that still holds up 30 (!!) years later. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

"The Four Of Us Are Dying"
Interesting episode about an unscrupulous guy who can change his face to look like anyone he wants. And he selects some "interesting" choices of faces to mimic. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| "Small Soldiers" (1998) High tech action figures powered by military grade microchips wage war in a suburban subdivision in this entertaining action comedy from Joe "Gremlins" Dante. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| "Escape Plan" (2013) Sly Stallone is a security expert who's hired to find the flaws in a supposedly escape proof high tech prison - by posing as an inmate and arranging a breakout. Once he's inside he enlists the help of a fellow prisoner (Ahhh-nold!) to make it happen. If this movie had been made in 1988 it would've been a license to print money! As it is, it's an enjoyable "B" grade action thriller. You can tell that Sly and Arnie were having fun. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| "Airplane!" (1980) The Zucker Bros.' epic parody of air disaster flicks is still one of the funniest - and most quotable - movies ever made. It never gets old! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

And the bullpen really let them down in this one. 7 runs in the 9th. Terrible

| Had an interesting evening with Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hrs. I had not seen either of these, and found 48 Hrs. much more enjoyable and funny. BHC suffered from development hell and it shows. Without much of it to be convincing, and Brest's mediocre direction throwing out sour notes too often, it just doesn't gel like Hill's stylish direction and the rock solid chemistry between Nolte and Eddie in 48. But BHC was still enjoyable, regardless, just very flimsy.
My main interest in watching these was because I remember reading about how terribly they were received by the moral majority due to their "extreme graphic violence." Well, damn how times have changed. While Hill is known for his depictions of realistic violence such as here, Brest barely gives us any squibs. The body count and visceral impact of both films combined is less than what I've seen on modern television. Compare these movies to, say, Dredd, where a dude's face literally gets blown off by point-blank automatic fire, and one has to scratch their head as to why the kind of criticism of movie violence yesterday hasn't appeared for movies today. Yet we'll always get the condemnation of screen sex of any form.

| 48 Hrs. is still my favorite Eddie Murphy movie. The scene in the redneck bar is classic. "I'm your worst nightmare, boy - I'm a n****er with a badge!" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
