I just watched Gamera: Guardian Of The Universe the other night. The FX in that one are quite good. The Gaos "birds" look great.
Tonight I'm going to be taking in Gamera: Attack Of Legion That whole Gamera trilogy is great, especially Attack of Legion and Revenge (or Awakening) of Iris.

| "Doc of the Dead" (2014) A fun documentary which traces the evolution of zombies from gory grindhouse favorites to pop culture phenomena. Interviewees include George Romero (of course), Robert Kirkman of "The Walking Dead," gore guru Tom Savini, porn star Joanna Angel (who made a "Walking Dead" porn parody...no kidding), and many more. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Twilight Zone: Season 1, Episode 2 "One For The Angels"
A sweet story of "Mr. Death" coming for an aging "pitchman" (street vendor) who's not ready to go until he gives a "pitch for the angels". The twist in the story quickly changes the pitchman's mind and he launches into his greatest pitch ever. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I watched a report on TSN called Pittsburgh Penguins: Playing to Lose. It was about their 1983-84 season, and how their general manager wanted his team to bomb the season and finish last just so they could get Mario Lemieux as the #1 pick in the NHL Entry Draft. | |

And that worked out well for them.

| "Frankenstein's Army" (2013) Bizarro gorefest set in the last days of WWII, as a troop of Russian soldiers are sent into Germany and discover a secret lab where a descendent of Dr. Frankenstein is using parts of dead Nazis to create bio-mechanical zombie soldiers. Some great gore FX but the hand-held camera filming style (the flick is seen thru the eyes of one of the Russians, who's shooting a propaganda film) takes some getting used to. Imagine a cross between "Blair Witch," "Inglourious Basterds," and "Hellraiser." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Yea, it was definitely one of the goriest things I've seen in awhile. The "found footage" angle was totally unnecessary but other than that it was a cool flick. Some utterly WTF stuff was goin' on!! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Although it sounds interesting, the found footage thing has been played out. I'm so sick of that technique.

| "Invisible Invaders" (1959) charmingly silly atom-age schlock about an attack on Earth by unseen aliens. For reasons that aren't ever made clear, the bad guys are also able to "possess" and re-animate dead bodies. Supposedly the "walking dead"scenes in this flick were an influence on a young George A Romero, making this an early "zombie" movie. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Watched the latter day Dirty Harry flic, "The Dead Pool". Forgot that Jim Carrey was in it. The G n R cameos were great. Izzy looked cool as hell in the split second appearance(s) The killer getting nailed to the building with a harpoon gun was a different way to end a movie like that. _________________ | |

I was interested in checking this out until I saw that it's another POV flick. Pass. Yeah, for some reason, amateur looking filming seems to be a choice of many but just causes dizziness to me. That stuff is OK for home movies but that's about it. One of the summer films comming out, Earth To Echo is using that technique. My family think it looks cute, but the shaky camera work will keep me away from it.

| A lot of lower budget movies adopt the handheld cam/"found footage" gimmick because it's cheaper. You only need to set up one camera, and you can cover up any choppy edits by having a character say, "I'm running out of film! Time to change reels!" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| "Holes" (2004) Quirky family friendly adventure stars a young Shia LaBouef (sp?) as a Texas teen sent to an odd juvenile detention camp in the desert, where the inmates are forced to dig holes all day, every day. Eventually, of course, Shia discovers that the mysterious "Warden" (Sigourney Weaver) has an ulterior motive for all that digging. Disney safe for the young'ins but unusual enough to keep grownups interested too. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I saw this a few years ago with my son and was surprised at hoew much I enjoyed it. I expected a somewhat boring kid's movie but got something quite a bit more out of it.
