| Gamera: Guardian Of The Universe
The SFX in this are outstanding for a mostly non-CGI movie. Gyaos and Gamera look great. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Mission To Lars
Nice story about three siblings following the Metallica tour so that their brother who has fragile X syndrome can fulfil his dream of meeting Lars Ulrich, he just has to get past his own anxiety to do it.
Every time I actually see Lars just being himself, it always strikes me that he is probably a really nice guy.

| ^^I still don't get all the hate for Lars, or hate for his drumming. He seems like a good man with a lot of talent. I feel like people choose to hate him. James, on the other hand...
Fantastic Voyage - PRIME science fiction, a flood of nostalgia as I haven't seen it since I was a young lad. Even better viewing today. It's easy to pick out the mile-wide plot holes, but the direction (Richard Fleischer, one of my favorite classic directors, who also helmed Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) is so riveting and imaginative that the sheer joy overcomes such obstacles. Leonard Rosenman's score, while sparse, illuminates certain scenes with his abstract approach. I can't recommend this wonderful film enough. Going to sleep well tonight.

| The end of the Pirates vs Reds game. I don't think I've ever seen a walk-off walk before. Very bizarre game (including a balked in run) | |

| "Dear Mr. Watterson" (2013) Interesting documentary that examines the legacy and continued influence of the classic comic strip "Calvin & Hobbes," and the effect it had not only on comics but art in general. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I just watched Gamera: Guardian Of The Universe the other night. The FX in that one are quite good. The Gaos "birds" look great. | Twilight Zone - "Where Is Everybody?"
The pilot episode for the series starring Earl Holliman.
Yep, that thread about catching the devil put me in the mood to rewatch the entire series. It's been several years so it was about time. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Saw some great Sci-Sorta-Fi recently:
Gravity - does it hold up on a second viewing? Yes and sort of no. Visually, it still takes my breath away, being almost everything I've ever wanted in a movie set in space. I plan on watching this repeatedly. My biggest quibble is the bombastic score. I understand the need to have it there, accenting the otherwise near-silent action taking place in a vaccum. However, I want more realism than that. Give me an extra track with no score and really put me in the action. There's also a bit more histrionics, mild as they are, that don't belong. Finally, the cheap metaphors of such obvious nature, especially in the end, are forced and unnecessary. I guess what I really want is something much more straight-forward and objective, but I can't have everything. Still a great and beautiful ride.
Apollo 13 - one of my space favorites, and I don't care how much it waves a flag (which really isn't much if you think about it), it's still a moving and convincing account of human survival in the most hostile environment. It also has one helluva launch sequence! Having read the book by Jim Lovell, this get pretty authentic with only a handful of dramatizations, mostly character oriented, that thankfully don't water down the actual incident. None of the crew should have survived that flight, and it's astonishing how they and those on the ground pulled it off. Ron Howard's best film, although I've yet to see other key titles of recent. Memorable score by James Horner.
