Veronica Mars (2014)
This Kickstarter funded resurrection of the critically acclaimed but prematurely cancelled TV series is a total hoot, especially for those familiar with the show. Â Kristen Bell shines returning to her signature role and by choosing to set part of the film at the high school reunion it provides a good reason to get all the other supporting cast together in one place. Â Not sure how the film would play to people that don't know the series as most films don't have this many characters running around but the central mystery is solid enough, the witty banter comes fast and furious and it's got a nice fun vibe throughout. Â The film is most definitely geared toward the fans though, after all they were the ones that got the project started to begin with and the filmmakers delivered on what they promised, a smart, funny return for a group of characters that should have had a longer run on TV in the first place.
This is the first film a major studio (Warner Bros) has released theatrically and Video-On-Demand simultaneously so it will be interesting to see how successful the model is, if it works it could open the door for other smaller film projects to get a similar release.

"Piranha II: The Spawning" (1981) Sequel to the killer fish classic ups the ante by giving the toothy suckers the ability to fly (the result of government gene splicing) and turns them loose on vacationers at a Caribbean resort. Cheap, gory Italian made fun marking the directorial debut of James Cameron, who maintains that he was fired during the editing process so he doesn't consider it "his" movie.

Decided to have a "Vikings" marathon today. (American t.v. show on the History Channel, been watching the series, since the start and was rather surprised when the History Channel actually had a show pertaining to history. -.- Not saying that this show is historically accurate, but definitely something I enjoy watching.)

"Vigilante" (1983) Entertaining variant on the "Death Wish" formula, with Robert Forster as a working class New Yorker who joins a neighborhood revenge squad (led by blaxploitation great Fred Williamson) after his wife and son are victimized by street punks. Lots of gritty NYC locations make this one a real time capsule.

"Skyscraper"(1996) - Hilariously bad "Die Hard" ripoff starring the late, great Anna Nicole Smith in the Bruce Willis role (yes, seriously! !) She's an L.A. helicopter pilot who gets mixed up with a high rise full of terrorists. I swear I am not making this up. Lots of bullets fly, stuff blows up, and Anna can't act her way out of a paper bag, but she gets her bigger-than-yer-head boobs out several times so I was entertained.

"Cyclone" (1987) Cheap n cheesy action flick with Heather Thomas of "The Fall Guy" as a biker chick protecting her late inventor boyfriend's pet project - a souped up, high tech, heavily armed motorcycle - from an assortment of industrial spies and arms dealers. It's like an episode of "Knight Rider" with female eye candy

That's because it's not a network TV show, it's a cable show, they don't have the same set of rules they have to follow.

Point taken. Maybe I should have said commercial television. I wouldn't have been quite as shocked if it was an HBO or Showtime series. Still...it caught me off guard.

It can be a little confusing.
There is "Broadcast TV": NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX & CW There is "Cable TV": A&E, FX, AMC, Spike, Syfy, etc. There is "Pay Cable" aka Subscription: HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc.
Broadcast TV has very strict censorship rules, Cable TV has to follow some of the same rules but have a lot more leeway, Subscriber based channels like HBO can basically do whatever they want.
