Frozen. Way better than I expected, great animation (man do they have these expressions down), decent songs (save for the yucky Let Go number or whatever it's called), and a somewhat unconventional story. Even my son (autism/ADHD) stayed with it the whole way, which is rare for him with feature length anything.

"Maniac" (1980)
TODAY I WATCHED (Movies, TV series) 2014 - Page 32 220px-Maniac_%281980%29

William Lustig's ultra-violent grindhouse splatter fave introduces Frank Zito - a New York psycho who's kinda like a combo of Norman Bates and Son of Sam. Frank's severe Mommy issues and voices in his head compel him to carve up a bunch of nurses, prostitutes and disco queens and displaying their scalps on the mannequin collection in his apartment.

British scream queen and onetime Bond babe Caroline Munro shows up about halfway through and unwittingly befriends the hulking wackjob, lending a "Beauty and the Beast" feel to the rest of the movie cuz you just know it's not gonna end well for her.

"Maniac" was filmed on location on the mean streets of NYC and features truly sicko gore effects by Tom "Dawn of the Dead" Savini. Dark, gritty, and sleazy, this is the kinda movie that makes you want to shower when you're done watching.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Excellent, easily exceeded my already high expectations.  Saw it in IMAX 3D at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, I'm not really a big fan of 3D usually but they did an excellent job on this one.

I haven't seen that one in ages. I think I have it somewhere in my DVD Vault though. I may have to dig it out now that I'm almost done with the Stargate SG1 series.

^^ the shotgun-to-the-head scene was br00tal!!

The rest of the gore stuff may have been pretty extreme by 1980 standards but you can see worse on network TV nowadays. But that shotgun scene is still hilariously disgusting!

"Being Human" series finale...wrapped everything up nicely. Still a shame to see this show go, though, cuz I really enjoyed it.

Oh yeah it is. I think I remember reading somewhere that Savini was even shocked by how effective it was, and it was even too much for him to handle. I thought the ending was pretty disgusting too, even though a bit snicker-inducing.

The remake with Elijah Wood is actually a decent tip of the hat, believe it or not.

That movie is one of my favorites...until...the morons decided to stage the final fight sequence underwater. The movie just totally dies as soon as it gets to that point.
