I was pleasantly surprised by Monsters and was impressed at how good it looked given its budget. It treads some of the same territory as District 9 but doesn't have the heavy-handed social commentary that film has.

No joke! They made the film for 500k! The director did the special effects at home on his laptop using COTS software.

To be fair the movie eventually cost about $4 million once all the post-production, mastering and duplication was finished. The original production cost was $500,000.

Robocop
I swear with time this movie has only gotten better. Such a classic. It's also funny watching the unrated (or X-rated as the case was) version since the added stuff to Murphy getting shot up really adds to the emotional elements of the story. And really his arm getting shot off and the headshot would be nothing these days.
Ticks
One of my favorite later day creature features. Used to watch this all the time on cable. Ami Dolenz was the draw but really it's her worst role. Have always been disappointed the tease of a sequel never materialized. Especially since....
Spoiler:
pretty much the entire cast survives
It also has Clint Howard's finest piece of work

"City of the Living Dead" (1980) In Lucio Fulci's semi classic gore fiesta (also known as "The Gates of Hell"), the suicde of a priest opens a doorway that allows the undead to rise and munch upon the living. Typical Italian-made zombie nonsense that doesnt make a lick of sense and is full of plot holes and WTF moments, but the carnage (which includes brain drilling, intestinal vomiting and a rain of maggots) is creative and sickening in equal measure.

You forgot to mention starring Christopher George, an actor who always looked like he was thinking "how in the hell did I get involved in this silly ass film?"

Haha, true, Christopher George did several Euro splatter movies, always playing a cop or a reporter.

"The Reef" (2010) - sea going suspense flick that's basically a Down Under version of "Open Water," as a group of Aussie shipwreck survivors' swim to safety is plagued by a persistent Great White shark. Derivative but enjoyable.

"Monsters" (2010) - director Gareth Edwards got tapped to helm the upcoming new "Godzilla" thanks to this indie hit, about an American couple trying to get back into the U.S. -- through a section of Mexico that's crawling with alien invaders. Decent suspense flick that could've used some more monster action, but it's done well in spite of its obviously low budget.

Yea, when it turned up on Netflix I remembered all the love it was getting around here. I wasn't as blown away by it as some of y'all seem to be but it wasn't a sh*t sandwich either.

Edwards manages to capture some real moments of awe during Monsters, moments that remind me in tone of films like Close Encounters. It's basically an indie road movie that happens to have some large alien creatures in it. What I think makes the movie interesting is the approach to the material, instead of using the basic monster movie template that has been in place since The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms he decides to focus on the human characters and basically make an arthouse monster movie. It's quite an achievement for the budget they were working with and I can't wait to see what Edwards does with Godzilla and that budget (which is about about 150x the amount he made Monsters with).

Godzilla also features a pretty blonde (Elizabeth Olsen), so that should make you happy.

Angel - Season 5
Still working my way through this, Season 4 was tough going, by far my least favorite of the series for one really annoying reason.

I really like season 5, it was much more fun than the previous 2 seasons, Spike and Harmony were back and I really like the Ileria storyline in the back half of the season.
Plus it has that uber-hot werewolf chick...

The puppet episode (which was Joss Whedon's idea) is one of the most brilliant of the entire series, it reaches Community-level absurdity.
Yes, Eve (evil W&F chick is hot as well).
The OTHER reason to love season 5, whoever decided to dress Amy Acker exclusively in mini-skirts. Oh it's SO easy to watch that season....

Frozen (2013) - watched it with my daughter (again, after taking the kids to see it in the theater) and my niece (my son watched Spaceballs on Netflix - lol!) This would fall in the "chick flick" category big time..... currently her favorite animate movie of all time. After seeing it a second time (and she's watched it several times since the blu-ray arrived), it's one of the better Disney animated flicks, easily on par with the Little Mermaid/Beauty&Beast/Lion King/Aladdin. If you liked those, you'll like this one.

"Life is Beautiful" (1997) I have always enjoyed this movie, it's about a Jewish bookkeeper in Nazi occupied Italy, who in an attempt to hold his family together and help his son survive a concentration camp, he imagines that the Holocaust is a game and that the grand prize for winning is a tank.
