Judas Priest stylistically changed???? Oh yeah...I tend to try and forget about that period...

Bands evolve. Nothing wrong with that. However, it should be a natural progression, not a left turn album to album. Avenged Sevenfold have done well for themselves and I applaud them. I have no problems with people being successful. But they sold out; they follow the trends. This is fact. You can line their albums up right alongside whatever the current trend in metal was at the time. Right now it's retro metal, and gee, their new album is ripping off Dio, Metallica, etc.
Suck it up, dude. They're sell outs. =)

Def Leppard never sold out. The only album anyone can accuse them of trying to follow trends with is Slang, and even then it wasn't very modern, just stripped down, less gloss than normal.

You know I'm playing hahaha!! I don't care what band did what. A7X or anyone else. IMO they never stylistically changed other than STST to Waking the Fallen. After that it was pretty much the same album. Sure the new one sounds like 90's era PETAL (pop metal) but there really isn't any of that in today's modern metal.

Hey, enjoy it. I listen to plenty of bands that have sold out. Sugar Ray, for example. I just don't defend them. =)

Some people need to learn the difference between progression and trend hopping. Progression is when a band changes and creates something different, fresh and/or new. Trend hopping is when they change to fit in with what is popular. What category do A7X fit into?

Plz let me know some bands that sound like A7X. If they are trend hopping, than there should be other bands doing this right? There isn't an album out this year that sounds like Hail to the King, therefore trend hopping is out of the question..
Did they change and create something different? No.. They made an album that sounds like 90's metal. Has nothing to do with trend hopping. The guys even said going into the studio they wanted to do something more in the lines as their influences. That doesn't make them trend followers IMO..

I really don't have an opinion either way since I have no idea what the current trends actually are.
But this has been a lot of fun to watch .

Been reading this thread and its one big LOL!
A7X are massive sellouts. I'm sorry metalrob but you come across as a massive fanboy douche with your posts. With each and every album A7X have released they have stylistically changed to fit in with whatever they think is selling at that moment. They come across to my ears like some x-factor corporate trash like one direction where they have a manager and producer that sits down before each album is recorded and are schooled in how to make a big selling record. That song eyesore posted is a blatant rip off of sad but true. Anyone who can't hear it needs their ears tested.
I always use paradise lost as an example when people talk about bands changing and evolving. You can't find a band with a more diverse catalogue than theres going from death metal to gothic/trad metal to mainstream electronica and almost back to there roots again. Each album showed a massive amount of variety and changes (until you get to the last 3/4 albums which have followed a similar path). These guys actually changed there style at the height of their popularity after the draconian times album where it would have been easy to just pump out several albums of a similar style and make some money but they chose a different path. To me this is a prime example of evolving musically.
A7X simply change according to whatever is flavour of the month in the metal/rock world and it comes across in the music. I Don't mind listening to bands that wear there influences on there sleeves and almost sound like copycats of there favourite artists but when bands start writing music just to chase the almighty dollar/pound then they better have something special about them otherwise the music sounds boring and uninspired. Bullet for my valentine are in the same boat as A7X as they are doing the exact same thing, chasing trends and money and as a result their last couple of albums have been crap. Nothing wrong with making money but do it off the back of genuine mucial talent and creativity.
Def leppard chased the money and commercially but it paid off because they had that something special A7X sadly don't, to my ears anyway.

The first single from this album is a blatant rip-off of Metallica's "Sad But True."

I don't mind these guys, even own 'City of Evil' but eyesore is right, these guys are huge sell outs. The new song blows more then Nina Hartley at a shriner's convention

Fanboy? Have you not read any of my posts? I don't own anything from A7X and will nvr but I've heard all their albums and selling out makes me Lmfaooo..One of the biggest bands in modern rock need to sell out?
But the douche comment..Now that's following the typical trends of what I see everywhere else when someone doesn't agree with an opinion. I've not said anything disrespectful and if voicing my opinion makes me a douche, that's laughable.

I don't think you're a douche, but you have come off like an Avenged Sevenfold fanboy. Not like we're all not fanboys ourselves with certain bands. Ult criticizes Def Leppard for doing things Aerosmith has done, of which he takes no issue. I do the opposite. He loves Aerosmith; I love Def Leppard. We're fanboys. Nothing wrong with that.
Either way, you have to ask the right questions. The biggest being: how did "one of the biggest bands in modern rock" get to that point? By selling out, of course.
Don't be daft, man. =)

One of the better modern rock bands
But I've got to be honest, the reason that I listen to so much old/retro stuff is that modern rock and metal doesn't have much to offer me at the moment. I'm waiting for that game changing record that blows me away.

I'm super picky about what I listen to. Whenever someone asks me for an album that will blow their mind. I say with no hesitation.. Pagan's Mind - Enigmatic Calling...

Ok maybe my comment of you being a douche metalrob was a touch over the top but you've been blindly supporting A7X on this thread. You surprise me saying you don't own any of their albums as you seem very familiar with their music. Is that because you rip stuff for free off the internet!
I own a few of their albums, mainly because I came across them cheap a few years back and fancied checking them out. I've even seen them live. Honestly, I think A7X would make a country/rap crossover album if they thought they could make some money out of it. This lack of musical integrity shines through their music in my opinion and is the reason I'll pass on this new album. Maybe I'll pick it up in a couple of years cheap out of curiosity.

One positive thing I can say for Avenged is that when I first heard their guitarist ripping out a speed solo when they first got big I thought "for once! Finally!" That kind of playing wasn't very mainstream or radio friendly at the time.
