Commenting on the video. This band has come a long way IMO and they just keep getting better when it comes to songwriting. I liked this band back when they were considered METALCORE or w/e genre they were in but I do prefer their style now... They also said they were gonna try and make a more traditional metal sounding album..

This sounds very very good. I liked a couple of songs before, but trying to dig deeper to their catalogue didn't pay off. Maybe I listened to wrong songs?

Depends on what style you are going for. The newer A7X is more groove based and slightly Panteraish with riffs and stuff. The further back you go the HARDER they get I would say. But with that also comes a different vocal approach as well... Here are some examples of their progress...
off the 2001 album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet.. This album has its moments but I cant get passed the vocals...
off the 2003 album Waking the Fallen..This is the first song I heard from A7X and you can hear the progression in songwriting and style on this album..
off the 2005 album City of Evil.. This album to me is when A7X found their sound. This album is killer with tons of varying styles on it.
off the 2007 SELF TITLED album... Songwriting on this album is very melodic and the band takes a much safer approach to the music. Killer first 4 tracks...
off the 2010 album NIGHTMARE... This album is just groove groove and more groove. I think the band really showcases what they can do on this album. If you want all of their previous styles in one album, this is where I would start.

I've dug these guys since I first heard Bat Country. I think that they bridge the gap between old and new metal quite well.

Now they've jumped onto the Dio style of metal bandwagon, eh?

Wow, no kidding. I mean I like that song but it sure doesn't sound like anything from City Of Evil (my favorite A7X album; I think they're kinda spotty after that and forget about the metalcore stuff before it). Still, it comes out on my birthday so I'll probably pick it up (or buy the download) anyway.

I liked some of the Metalcore elements in their old Discography, but these guys are at their very best when its just balls out rock music. COE is a prime example of that. That album showcases what these guys can do.

Yeah, like I said COE is easily my favorite album by A7X.

I like it a lot. Good classic metal sound, different than what they have done in the past, but good. Supposedly the new album is heavily influenced by that (not that they really ever weren't) along with Zeppelin and Sabbath.
Kinda torn because I love the three previous albums but I'm also liking this new direction.

ALbum actually suprised me and one thing I do love is that these guys def wear their influnces on their sleeve with this album. GnR, Metallica, and Maiden are all over this album...

If by influences you mean the trendy thing to do these days (play "retro" metal), then sure. Then again, this band has done nothing but follow trends. They're just as bad as Christian bands.
And good lord, if you're going to blatantly rip off a Metallica song, rip off something better than "Sad But True." Jesus.

you can usually tell by a post if a person likes a band are not.. Here's the perfect example...
Bands can play whatever they want and like I've said a thousand times.. No matter what a band does nowadays it's most likely gonna sound like or be compared to other bands, That doesn't make it trendy or retro. That makes it MODERN...
As far as the album goes. It's pretty damn badass..

Have to agree with Metalrob on this. I love Havok and Evile but man, they definitely wear their inluences openly so much so that my wife thinks they are classic bands with new stuff at times.

When you can trace a band's stylistic shifts and match them up with shifts in mainstream musical trends, it's called "lack of musical integrity."
They're making money and that's great for them, but I'll pass.

It's called "Doing whatever you want." Most bands change album to album, and if they don't they get called "samey" or "not expanding their sound." But when they do change, they get called "Sellouts" or "Trendy?" I just don't get it..
Sure it's not groundbreaking or original. That doesn't make it bad, does it?
A guy posted this comment on their album...
I know I'm not gonna change anyone's opinion by saying this but hail to the king is an album that brings back the sound of classic metal, riffs inspired by Metallica, iron maiden, black sabbath, etc. this album is amazing and unique, it's an album with a sound you don't get from newer metal bands anymore, this is what metal should sound like. Disagree all you want, I don't care.

Did bands inspired by Sabbath and Maiden disappear? I have a big stack of stuff here that says otherwise....but that guy probably wouldn't dig em..
