I'd recommend trying out Animalize.

I was talking about myself at age 9, I dumped Kiss for Pink Floyd in late '79. I got Dark Side Of The Moon as a gift and it was the single greatest thing my 9-year old mind had ever heard. I started bugging my Mother incessantly until she finally gave in and bought The Wall for me a couple months later when it was released. Then about a year later I discovered Rush. I just never really went back to KISS, though I did eventually get Creatures Of The Night in the late 80s. I had never heard the album but the cover band I was working with played War Machine and I liked that song enough to spend 25 cents on a used copy of the LP. |

J/K man. A buddy of mine has a theory that Kiss wrote 40 hits songs back in 1973 and has parsed them out at a rate of one per album. Ha! Seems to have some merit.

Not a bad theory, though I think Kiss - Alive! has 70% of their best material, Alive II has another 20%...then the other 10% was divvied out over the next 35 years. |

Don't get me wrong, Gene's still a jerk, but he's right. Well yeah...he's not exactly a humble guy. But he's right when it comes to Ace & Peter. They blew it, then they $old their stake in KISS to him...end of story.

| Don't get me wrong, I think that Ace & Peter were jerks too, but it's Gene's assumption that HE is Kiss and the make up is some kind of badge of honour that only he can bestow and he can take away, gimmie a f**king break! That super earned honour of wearing the paint has gone to the first two nobodies who were cheap enough and subservient enough to put up with the other two's crap. What exactly have they done to "earn the paint"? I don't really like the band but even i know that they make their money playing the songs and using the image that was the original four, but Gene plays this little game that Ace & Peter were always unimportant, it's the paint that matters. Did I mention gimmie a f**king break!! But yeah, Shawn's explanation of what went on makes a lot more sense, if he explained it like that I could understand it (like with Lombardo in Slayer, he sold his stake) but all of the egomaniacal bull that goes with it makes me | |

| I would assume that by "earning the paint", he means to stay the course, put in the work, keep up, contribute to the continual growth and forward progress of the band in some way...which he and Paul feel Ace & Peter are no longer able to do, due largely to their own actions/choices. A band isn't a "buddy club"...you either pull your weight or you don't....if you don't, they'll find someone who will. _________________ FINAL SIGN

I have never seen him say Ace & Peter were unimportant. He and Paul have stated, on record, over and over, that Ace & Peter are equally as important as Gene & Paul in creating and establishing KISS as a globally recognized force and brand. They are the 4 who built it and "conquered the world", so to speak. We all know the story of Ace's & Peter's substance abuse issues, bad choices, etc...those things prevented them from continuing and "competing" on a global level...Gene & Paul did not want to let that deter them from continuing, so they cut Ace & Peter...just like a sports team cuts aging, impaired players to keep moving forward. Like it or not, KISS is a brand. Gene's sports metaphor rings true. Just because Terry Bradshaw is no longer quarterback, does not mean that they're no longer the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes, Ace & Peter created the Catman and Space Ace personas...then they sold them. They no longer have any say in what happens with them. That's on them. They need to man up and quit crying. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| Gene is right. Ace & Peter are complete screw-ups that pissed away their opportunities and fortunes. I have no sympathy for them. I wish the band would patch up their differences but I don't think that will ever happen. | |

LOL! That would be classic! Gene is a being a dick in the interview, and he knows it and he could care less. Ace and Peter did create the characters. Yes, they were bought out of their percentage in the KISS machine years ago. Yes, they fell like MANY MANY others to the rock and roll life style - they chose alcohol and drugs and Gene chose to stick his dick in anything that is female and moves. Paul, only God knows what he chose as his vice.... The difference between G/P and A/P is that G/P are workaholics and have a different work ethic and didn't let their vices get in the way. No Ace and Peter, no KISS as what they are today - Gene doesn't need to be a prick about it. Gene and Paul seem to be trying harder than ever to push the "KISS Brand is about the make-up and songs, not who is wearing the war paint and playing the tracks." There was no way in hell that they were every going to play with Ace and Peter at the Hall of Shame - that would completely defeat what they have been trying to do since Peter's contract wasn't renewed - have KISS keep going with a new "Starchild" and "Demon" - hell, they try to refer to themselves by the make up names as much as possible these days. They made the gamble years ago that they can replace themselves with employees and keep pulling in good yearly revenues for KISS, Inc. KISS is no longer a hard rock band - they are a traveling Broadway show when the parts are the same but the players may be different. Gene is trying a bit to hard to sell that by being a dick to Ace and Peter in the interview.

Definitely. They know they will be retiring semi-soon and want to make sure the money keeps rolling in with KISS II. Sometimes I hate that I like the music KISS is currently putting out, because I don't like Gene at all. But since it's not like he's Ted Nugent or something, I still feel okay buying the records.
