I think Jon Oliva went to a junior high school and let the 7th graders handle the lyrics on that album.

Every time I hear Flotsam & Jetsam's cover of "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" I cringe when they change the lyric "It's seven o'clock and I wanna rock" to "...I wanna mosh." Dunno why, I guess I just hate when bands change lyrics to old songs to make them more "MeTaL," it just screams "cheez".

Another example: On Great White's cover of the Who's "Substitute" (on their S/T debut), they change the lyric "I see right through your plastic mask" to "I see right through that Satan crap." Um...what????

That's not cheesy at ALL!

About half of the 'Turbo' album is stuff I wouldn't have playing with people around or the car windows down..

Agreed. Savatage's lyrics were pretty bad up until Hall Of The Mountain King. They matured quite a bit at that point (She's In Love from Gutter Ballet not withstanding ).

I'm going with genius, Bon's lyrics always made me smile. Brian's sex songs always creep me out.

But an even worse offender off of Def Leppard's Adrenalize album is the song Make Love Like a Man.

This is par for AC/DC but still gives me a laugh.

That's what I mean about Brian's songs. The last thing in the world that I want a mental image of is Brian Johnston on the job!!

That one may have been intentional. It was an attempt by them to be funny, hence the ridiculous lyrics.

Was listening to Crucified Barbra's In Distortion We Trust and while it's a fun album musically the lyrics can be painful.

Ooh, I got a good one.

I picked up a compilation CD from the 2000 "Powermad" festival over the weekend (I assume that all the bands on it played at said fest), and one track, a Manowar style troo-metal-rules-over-all anthem called "We Are Metal" by Premonition, contains some absolute howlers like:

"We are metal! We are the elite! And all the other trends will fall upon our feet!"
...ummm...what? That doesn't even make sense. "Fall beneath our feet," maybe, but "fall upon?"

"You won't see us wearing lipstick, and you'll never hear us rap! We are tr00 metal warriors and all the rest is CRAP!"

...seriously, I'm dyin' over here.

A funny thing about the Soulfly song that was referenced earlier in this thread that I saw in a review on Metal Archives. It was that "He doesn't make it clear what will be accomplished if you "jumpdaf**kup", but he seems quite intent on it."

I got a good laugh at that.
