| No thread on Pearl Jam, incredible since we have threads on Soundgarden, L7 and other grunge era bands but we have no thread on the last surviving band of the grunge movement? Any fans out there? Personal favorite of mine from that era, smart well written lyrics, great musicianship, just overall great band. | |

| I love everything I have heard from them. They were never grunge they just were victims of circumstance and in the right place...yadda yadda. They transcend all the grunge bands, IMO. |

The word grunge doesn't really describe any of the bands that I liked from that scene, Alice In Chains, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Nirvana and Pearl Jam really IMO transcended that grunge label, thoses that couldn't like Mudhoney never made it past the cult following stages. The word grunge is one of the many reasons I don't like slapping labels on music.

| Lots of talent in this band but Eddie's voice grates on my ears after awhile. I like Stone Gossard's side project with RHCP's Chad Smith, Thermadore, better. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I own Vitalogy (but only because I swiped it from my sister's collection 13 years ago). I hated it then, haven't bothered listening to it since.
Not really a band I'd care to own the albums for outside of their greatest hits, they had some great singles.

| I have everything in their catalog. I definitely feel the album "Ten" is their seminal album, but everything else is still very solid. In some ways I hated the direction of the band, and in other ways I totally respected the course they took. The first one being their decision to not shoot another video after their debut album. So it was initially okay to use the video medium to get your music out there, but then they shunned the industry that helped them succeed. Then again, I really hate the direction that MTV took in the early 90's with taking the focus off the music and going into the reality T.V direction and skit material. The second being Eddie's crusade with not playing in any Ticket Master venues, because of the monopoly that was Ticket Master. I think the band alienated a potential fanbase outside of the one they currently had. Maybe that was all by design though? Perhaps the initial success was more than what they really wanted? I can't say I know that much about the inner workings of the band, and have just been a fan of the music. Anyways they were definitely an important band in the history of the grunge movement, even if they shouldn't have been placed in that movement. I'm assuming most of you have seen the movie "Singles" by Cameron Crowe, but if you haven't it's definitely worth checking out. What the movie "Almost Famous" (another Crowe movie) was for early 70's rock, "Singles" was for the grunge movement in Seattle in the early 90's. | |

I think they may be one of my favorite bands. I really love some of their stuff and can't stand the up tempo songs. I'll never understand how a somg like yellow leadbetter didn't make it onto any of their main albums. I've played Elderly women countless times in various bands.

Remember that time you mentioned the bands that you felt were not authentic, but just glam bands trying something new because glam bands were everywhere in the 80's? One of those bands was Mother Love Bone. They were glam in disguise. Luckily Andrew Wood died so the band would stop its wallowing in mediocrity and grow a pair and get Eddie Vedder to sing for them. |
