And not sure if you heard, since the questions were hard to hear and understand, but Jon said the box set would be out around Christmas, maybe. That's sweet!
Yes, But didn't he say Christmas of '09?
Did he? I might have missed that part. That probably makes sense. If it were 2008 they'd be releasing part two twice within months.

And yeah, Jon's been very open about his dislike for Burnt Offerings, which is good really because at least he offers an explanation for its live absence. I think I remember reading that the main reason he dislikes it was because it associates it with a very bitter time in his life. After Night of the Stormrider, it took 3 years to get Burnt Offerings out due to Century Media messing him around, and as the result, the album became an expression for his rage towards Century Media more than anything. The title track alone is pretty seething. It's a shame though, because I personally think it's some fantasticly well written rage.
It is definitely a great album, but I can understand certain feelings having connections beyond their immediate target.

Looks like someone just filmed their TV set, but holy crap is this awesome! Wish Matt would bust out this crap more often. I've never seen them do this song live, so I was pretty impressed that he was able to nail all those high-pitched wails. Killer stuff!
And since every thread needs an asshat, I give you:
What is with people? I used to do this crap when I was like 12, behind locked doors! Haha. If anyone ever filmed me, let alone myself, I'd have commited suicide. Haha.

Thus far (more than half way through) this album blows the last one out of the water. This is the Iced Earth album those who were disappointed in the last one have been waiting for. Interludes have been almost wipped out, the orchestration was pulled back some, and the guitar solos shred. Looks like Barlow being back has brought life back into this band (this comming from someone who liked Framing Armegeddon). His voice is superb and hasn't lost it's edge in the least. This album moves up into my top 5 of the year for sure. I give this 5 banging Eddies!

Great to hear. I knew getting Barlow back would revive this band. I could tell from the single EP I bought that the problem on the last two was the vocalist because the re-recorded songs with Barlow sounded much better than with Ripper.

THis hurts my face. I wish I hadn't read this. Tim Owens was AWESOME on the last disc.

Sorry Rex but Ripper just didn't fit IE IMO.
He's great in a typical shrieking heavy metal band; I could see him in Primal Fear for instance. I just don't think his voice has enough nuances for Iced Earth's music.
Just my opinion.

I thought he fit IE perfectly. The last two from them have been some of my favorites and I like them over most of Barlow's era. But don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see Barlow back in IE. My biggest wish would have been to have kept both singers for this album. That would have ruled my earholes.

He fits, I think, but Barlow just fits better. I love the Owens-era albums, but the Barlow stuff is just better, in my opinion.

Just got the new album and it kicks ass. Much better than Framing Armageddon IMO. It's so good to hear Matt back in IE. Ripper was good but he's no Matt. The two albums Ripper did with IE were OK, but Matt just fits IE better. He should just do his own thing with Beyond Fear. THAT BAND KICKS ASS!!!!

I though Beyond Fear was kind of boring.

I gave it another listen lastnight but only got up to song 7 and still nothing. What am I missing? The songs just seem too blah compared to their other stuff. It also seems like this is just a slow album to me, theres really no speedy songs which is part of Iced Earth being Iced Earth. Am I missing Ripper now? I dont know...

I really liked the 2 Ripper albums with IE. I think he fits very good to IE. But this album makes clear that Matt fits better. The Crucible of Man is excellent and I like it with every listening a little bit more.
Here is the link to another interessting interview with Jon (don't know if it was already posted elsewhere on this board): http://www.faceculture.nl/artist.php?id=599&PHPSESSID=51982081dc40efa7d502367f446aa640

Yep. The Glorious Burden stuff will sound weird if Matt sings them.
