You know my tastes. I like heavy metal. 70's Purple/Rainbow/Heep/UFO stuff, NWOBHM, glam metal, thrash metal, speed/power metal. Some goth.
Just post a song, and I will listen to it and say what I think about it. Don't post 20 songs. In fact, let's make it 1 song per poster. Pick a song that's interesting. I have a boring Saturday night ahead of me (I had to cancel all plans because of a sick kid). Keep me entertained, and I will keep you entertained.
EDIT: for those wondering what to post and what not to post, click on my signature to see my CD collection. That's at least a glimpse of music I already know intimately. But I don't really care if I heard it already. I will comment anyway.

Alright, here we go. I poured myself a tumbler of whiskey, got in the mood of some heavy interesting music, so let's go.

Leatherwolf? Okay, I never listened to them. Anything with leather sounds slightly gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Song starts... I LOVE the intro. The piano parts are beautiful, the voice is perfect. I didn't expect to be thrown a power ballad at me. But this guy has so much emotion. Basic chords, but 5/5 song. Pussy ballad the way I like it. Something I could play for the missus as well as for myself. Not that I have a missus ATM. Future missus.
Wonderful song. Much appreciated. Reminds me of Savatage/Morgana Lefay.

It's not embedded so I didn't know what I was clicking on. Turns out it's NOBLE BEAST! I actually do own this on CD. In fact, I bought it after reading about the band right here on Heart of Metal. Just today I played Behold the Face of Your Enemy from this very album, when I was in the mood for some US power metal.
I now did play the song again. It is real good. Very good. The guys know what they are doing. Fast, powerful, catchy. The thing that separates this band from the others is the lead singer. Divisive, I suppose. He's a baritone or at least sings in a lower key. Kind of like the dude from Falconer. This gives the music a different tone. I like it. I don't love it. I didn't follow up on what the band did after the release of this CD. So they didn't truly win me over, but this specific song kicks ass. All music should be like this.
I rated the previous song 5/5 and if I were to rate this, it'd also be 5/5. There was no mention of rating songs in the OP though, so I'm not sure why I'm doing it. I am not going to rate every song. I just promised to comment on them. Maybe it's the alcohol.

Refilling my glass and on to the next one:

Awesome, AWESOME! NWOBHM sounding stuff, I love it! Stone Dagger says nothing to me. Nothing, zilch! At least Leatherwolf I've heard about - they had classic albums. But the music - the song right here has an instantly likeable sound. Reminds me of, maybe Girlschool? But with a male vocalist, obviously. NWOBHM or NWOBHM inspired definitely. Right up my alley!
The main riffs are simple, but there are some technical parts too. And that singer has that perfect rock voice that I hear in my head when I clumsily compose imaginary songs either in my head or when awkwardly playing and fiddling with my guitar with zero talent. These guys are who I want to be.
I had to look it up and I can't believe this is not from the 80's!
Thank you for this, Scott. But also, damn you, because Amazon doesn't carry them on CD. It's probably an underground rarity I can never own physically unless I win the lottery.
sigh
Time for a refill, and another song.

I did look up the song and listened to it. Love it or hate it, streaming is a thing. (I hate it)
That's the image I got. That image made me think of Scanner the German band and continental European speed metal, but the music I find here is pretty British. The singer wants to be Lemmy and he does a pretty good job at it, I can't complain. The music isn't Motörhead. It's a little bit of classic, a little bit of speed and the combination is good. But not something that won me over instantly. Guitars are damn good though. I do like it.
I think I was a bit thrown off by the image, and by my expectations. Maybe it's real good. But right now, at this very moment, it didn't hit me very hard. I'm going to have to play it again another time. I think me not being a massive Motörhead fan hurts here. I do own 2 (two!) Motörhead CDs, but they are their most un-Motörheady albums imaginable - Another Perfect Day and 1916. I saw them live too, but I feel so bad about not being able to appreciate the greatness that I truly must have witnessed. Because I did not recognise it.

Griffin, cool name. I never listened to them. Let's see what they've got...
Already from the intro I could tell this is something I would like. And when the main riff and verse starts, this song instantly takes me back to the 80's. I love the lead singer. The song itself is composed perfectly, but the solo and even the vocal melodies are modest. Not very extreme, unlike what the lyrics would have you believe.
Nothing fancy here, don't expect it. Apart from the shrill bloody scream that ends the song (which is very cool). It's not like I expected intricate playing anyway. No. This is perfect for what it is, as it is.
I will keep this song in mind. And play it again when I want to hear an honest kickass tune. But I doubt I'll be hunting down their discography and rare vinyl EP's any time soon.
Great post though. Very enjoyable, thank you Freddy
And how unappreciative of me to forget to thank all others who also contributed. Thank you all. Consider this a night out for me, even if it's an online version of it. Imagine we rock out together to these tunes.

So cool, the sound. I am on a thrash metal kick currently, so this hits a spot. The singer is so good, too. This is like Metal Church, The Dark era, but damn heavy. I love the sound. Love it.
I didn't pay attention to the lyrics, but I assume it's Christian metal, which is ALSO very cool. I am not a Christian metal warrior...
... but I greatly appreciate bands that put in true passion to their lyrics. Be it their faith, their personal experiences or their political beliefs. Only by expressing your true passion can you reach the next level. Be it so that it divides the audience. That only makes it better.
A quick google of the band (I wanted the CD) makes me sound like an idiot, because obviously this is the singer from Metal Church and I should have known that. And Christian lyrics I probably imagined in my head. Whatever. The song rocks. An absolute gem! So good.
This 5 minutes I spent with this song alone is a reason my Saturday night is a success.

I never even heard of this group. Let's see what they've got. The sound of the intro is atmospheric. Sounds nice, and easy to play. Makes me want to pick up the guitar.
There's progression, and it's like a dreamy song. The singer has a warm voice. I like it a lot. But I do not know if I could take a whole album of it. This is 9 minutes long and it's already a bit of a challenge (or I have ADD).
I like the short outro, when the singer lets loose after the solo. The song is sort of minimalistic, but the sound is still full.
Pretty cool.

Icarus with photoshopped abs on the cover... okay, must be super fast cheesy power metal from Italy or something, right?
A melodic intro, it's pretty, and then it kicks into something I would describe as traditional heavy metal. Mid-tempo, big riffing. The singer doesn't sound Italian
This is a new production, but reminds me of those NWOBHM bands that recorded albums in the 2010's and 2020's, where it's obviously an older band playing 80's music, only recording it with modern studio equipment. Like Traitors Gate. Or Iron Angel.
It's honest heavy metal, no frills. These guys are good at what they do. It didn't blow me over, but this is something I could listen to a full album of. I'll try and remember the name Helios. I kept looking at the fake abs the whole song. I have to get that image out of my mind.

Leatherwolf are not all ballads. They play some awesome US power metal.
As a matter of fact, they have recently released a new studio album titled Kill The Hunted, which will most likely top my 2022 releases list!
Highly recommended

I had no idea why you skipped me… My actual guess was that it had something to do with the Jon Schaffer conversation. But thanks for inadvertently letting me know the reason.

Nope, they're American. From Pittsburgh, to be exact.

The singer is Tim Aymar, who some of you might remember from Control Denied (Chuck Schuldiner's melodic prog-metal side gig) and Psycho Scream. This is his current band, the album this track comes from was recently released by our old friend Stormspell Records.
Glad you liked it!
