The Pirates have made quite a few head scratching trades this season including the salary dump of Liriano. And it certainly seems that they have given up on the season. The fan base is not happy.

| Tried watching Quick Pitch on MLB Network but they instead wasted everyone's time by showing the press conference announcing A Rod's "retirement" or whatever you want to call it. | |

| I watched the Cardinals continue to suck at home as they lost to the Braves 6-3. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

ESPN did the same thing. They wasted at least an hour on that crap. Big deal, A-Roid is retiring and returning as a "special assistant" to tell other young Yankees what NOT to do if they want to get away with doing PEDs. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I also just watched Ichiro get his 3000th hit live on MLB Tonight.
Congrats to him. It really is an amazing feat considering he didn't even start in MLB until he was 27. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Pirates lose to the Reds 7-3. The Pirates had several opportunities to come back but couldn't pull it off and were unable to sweep the Reds. | |

| Watched the Pirates look totally inept in losing to the Padres 4-0. Highlight of the game was this fan trying to catch a foul ball and spilling his food all over himself. Wish I could find a video. | |

| Watched the Pirates beat the Dodgers 5-1. Amazingly as poorly as the Pirates have been playing this year, they're still in the Wild Card hunt. | |

| You know, with all the mediocrity floating around among the teams competing for the second NL wild card, it's still pretty much anyone's to win. St. Louis, Florida, Pittsburgh, New York...
The Cardinals just came off a very successful 9 game road trip that included a split in Chicago and a two-game sweep in Houston but now they're home and for whatever reason we've SUCKED at home. 14 games over on the road and 5 games under at home.
They open the current homestand tonight against the Mets who have almost as many injuries as the Cardinals do, except most of their's are to the starting pitching which is way worse. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| The Pirates have been pulling the same crap. They were on a tear there, winning the four previous series (including taking 2 of 3 from the Dodgers and sweeping the Giants, both on the road) before heading home. So what do they do? Get swept by the Marlins (who leapfrogged over the Buds in the standings) then look anemic against the Astros. At least they looked rather impressive last night in the second game against the Astros. | |

| Watched the Pirates surprisingly take 2 games in a row from the Brewers last night. For whatever reason the Pirates have a difficult time in Milwaukee. Behind Jordy Mercer's grand slam, the Bugs were able to take the game 5-3 | |

| Cardinal rookie Luke Weaver picked up his first MLB win last night going 6 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and fanning 7 as St. Louis beat Oakland 3-1. Right now I'd take a Weaver start over a Wainwright start any day; Wainwright has been beyond horrible all August. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I'm watching Fox's coverage of the Cubs vs. Dodgers and Ken Rosenthal just interrupted to say that Pirates starter Gerritt Cole will miss Monday's start against the Cubs because he's flying to LA to have a doctor look at his elbow.
Ouch. That's not a good sign for the Pirates. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Ouch. That's not a good sign for the Pirates. He's been extraordinarily average this year. Maybe that will explain it. There are some pretty decent pitchers waiting down in AAA Indy so I'm sure the Pirates will go that route. They certainly can't do much worse than what Cole has been showing.

| Today I watch Jaime Garcia once again struggle in the early innings but even with that, after seven innings it was As-5, Cards-4. Then we brought in Fatboy Broxton again. Good lord this guy sucks. Final was 7-4.
Broxton sucked last year and yet for some reason as mysterious as what is going on in the Bermuda Triangle, the Cardinals gave Fatboy a contract. Ugh.
Oh, and last night STL had to start Alex Reyes because Mike Leake has a nasty case of shingles. It's so bad that today the announcers were saying he might have to go on the DL. I wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy. Fatboy maybe but not my worst enemy. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Pirates complete their first ever 4 game sweep in Milwaukee,3-1, behind 3 solo shots from Jaso, Polanco and Marte. The sweep put them a half game out of the wild card but they have the daunting task of taking on the Cubs in Chicago starting tonight. | |

| Earlier I watched the Cardinal bullpen totally collapse and turn a 2-1 game into a 9-1 laugher.
Now I'm watching Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I've been watching the Pirates stumble and bumble through a 5 game losing streak. Hopefully they can turn it around. I have tickets to Monday's game against Toho's Cards and it would be nice if the game could have higher stakes to it. | |

| Well the Cardinals salvaged one game in Cincy. Carlos Martinez got his 13th win and the Cardinals hit 2 more HRs (24 games in a row with at least one). 5-2 final.
On to PNC Park. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
