Melancon blows his second straight save chance but Harrison is able to salvage the win with a walk off triple/throwing error in the bottom of the 9th.

Cards won the first game of a split doubleheader today.
Saw something I've never seen in a game before. In the second inning, pitcher Carlos Martinez all of a sudden started bleeding from his nose. The game was delayed about 10 minutes while the medical staff tried to stop the nosebleed. They ended up just packing his left nostril.
Not only did Martinez finish the inning but he actually threw 7 innings and only allowed 1 hit after the first inning.

Watched the Pirates lose to the Mariners 7-4. The Pirates had a nice 4-2 lead but Liriano melted down in the 4th and gave up 5 runs (and why does Hurdle wait so long to pull a guy).

Tonight I watched the Cards end the save streak of Jeurys Familia, the Mets closer. The guy had been 36 for 36 in save opportunities this year and hadn't blown a save in almost a year. Well, he has now. The Mets led 4-3 in the 9th but Familia allowed 2 runs and not only blew the save but also took the loss as the Cards scored 2 in the 9th to win 5-4

Watched the Pirates put together an all around complete game. Loads of offense, great defense and a superb pitching performance but Gerritt Cole. He pitches his first complete game and the Pirates beat Seattle 10-1.

Tonight I watched the Cardinals beat Jose Fernandez and the Marlins 5-4. Fernandez came in with a lifetime 26-1 record at home but STL got him for 5 runs in 5 innings and jumped out to a 5-0 lead then hung on for the win. Fernandez had also never given up 2 homeruns in an inning before tonight.

So Aroldis Chapman is going to put the Cubbies over the top, eh? Well not today guys, blown save and charged with 1 run in 1/3 of an inning. Arrieta left with two on and two out in the 8th inning and what did Chapman do? He allowed a two-run double but both of those runs were charged to Arrieta. THEN he wild-pitched another run in. HAHHAHAHA! The guy's ERA is now 3.38; not terrible but also not the be-all, end-all everyone thinks he is.
I've always said Chapman is overrated and I still think so. Even his "legendary" 105mph pitch this year was a ball. I don't care how hard a guy throws, if he can't throw it consistently for strikes and doesn't really have an offspeed pitch to mix in there, major league hitters will get to him.
Oh yeah, Shlubs lost 4-1. Now if only the Cardinals can win and close the gap to 5.5 games.

Last night I watched the Cards' pen blow yet another late inning game. I put most of the blame for this one on Fatboy Broxton who came in in the 8th to face the last 3 batters in the order and couldn't get anyone out. Oh had to come in to bail his fat ass out in the 8th but then was brought in to try to close it in the 9th and gave up a 3 run HR. No one does 2 inning saves anymore, c'mon Matheny. But it's Fatboy Broxton's fault for once again sucking.

Watching the Pirates at the Braves. Only the Pirates can bat around in the 1st, scoring 4 runs, then slowly squander said lead inning by inning. Currently 5-4 Braves in the bottom of the 6th. I've said it before, I'll say it again: Jeff Locke is awful and does not belong in the Majors.

Cardinals are trying their best to do the same thing. They sent 9 men to the plate in the first and also scored four runs but promptly gave 2 back in the bottom of the inning. Currently 5-4 Cards in the bottom of the 8th in Cincinnati.

Watched the Pirates beat the Reds 3-2 on Sean Rodriguez's walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th. It shouldn't have come to that if Tony Watson hadn't blown the save in the top of the 9th with no hits.

Cards finally got a good start from the rotation after about a week of 5 innings or less each time out. Jaime Garcia went 8 innings and allowed 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 11. He also drove in the only run of the game as the Cardinals won 1-0 last night.

I'm watching the Braves/Cardinals game and the announcers were just recapping the latest trades. I guess the Pirates have totally given up on this season as they just traded my favorite name in baseball to Seattle. Arquimedes Caminero. I just love that name but now I'll hardly ever hear it.
