"Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" (2015)
SyFy's schlocky franchise returns for a third go round. The heroic Fin (Ian Ziering) is receiving the Presidential Medal of Honor for his bravery during the previous two films when Washington D.C. is abruptly wiped out by the most powerful Sharknado yet. Fin then has to make his way to Universal Studios Orlando (product placement, anyone?) to rescue his wife and daughter AND figure out how to stop a massive "Wall of Sharknados" from destroying the entire East Coast. If it wasn't already obvious, this flick lays on the "campy" thicker than the previous two films combined, and packs in even more ridiculous celebrity cameos (Lou Ferrigno! Ann Coulter! Mark Cuban! Jerry Springer! The kid from "Malcolm in the Middle" whose name I can never remember! George R.R. Martin! Kathie Lee, Hoda and the entire "Today Show" anchor team!). Plus, there's a last minute save from... the Hoff! You guys know I love this kinda crap, and yes, "3" has its moments of silly fun, but most of the time it feels like it's trying too hard to out-do the previous entries. The "Sharknado" concept has obviously run its course, but since this one ends with a totally bullsh*t "cliffhanger" that sets up a "4," I'm sure there will be a new installment same time, next year.

Well, that was quick. "Sharknado 3" apparently broke the Internet last night with zillions of Tweets and Facebook posts about it during its premiere, so SyFy has, unsurprisingly, already green-lighted a "4" for next July.
They're gonna have to go international for the next one, I think. Sharknados over Europe? Sharknado in Japan? The possibilities are endless!

So the Sharknado concept has officially jumped the shark...nado.
Ba-dum-dum.

The ratings were lower for 3 than either of the previous movies. It's trending downward.

Thank goodness. Now SyFy can go back to their other shark hybrid ideas. Still waiting for "SharkADactyl"; the result of splicing the DNA from a Pteradactyl with a shark from Sharknado. Since the shark could fly they could even use the same scenes that are in the Sharknado movies just intercut with crappy CGI of the flying shark.

I'm still holding out hope that at some point they'll change the name back to Sci-Fi channel, fire Asylum completely and maybe make some programming for adults ala the Battlestar Galactica series.

Good luck with that.
They could also pick up great science fiction series that ended with cliffhangers but were never renewed. Like Odyssey 5 and Babylon 5. Especially Odyssey5. so many great ideas left completely unexplored.
But these cheapo Asylum things draw huge ratings and are cheap to make so I think that's a pipe-dream.
I blame Freddy and his "ilk"

They do have a couple new series starting that are supposedly more "prestigious" but if you want to be taken seriously as a channel you can't offer nothing but ironic schlock films...you have to have a balance of programming. At this point, people just know them for the garbage they spew out.

The only time I turn to SyFy is for WWE Smackdown when the Cardinals aren't playing on a Thursday. And I still have absolutely no clue why professional wrestling is on that channel in the first place.

The sad thing is most of their TV series they don't even produce, they are just licensed Canadian series (Continuum, Lost Girl). It's a seriously lazy network.

I wanted the Sci Fi Channel badly but it wasn't available for the longest time. Finally our cable expanded and it became available. I was glad to have it but their programming changed drastically and then the name change and I only watch it from time to time. I meant to watch Sharknado 3 but missed it. I'm sure it will be on again.

"Message From Space" (1978)
A group of star pilots from Earth are "chosen" by a mysterious force to help defend an alien planet from invaders in this cheap sh*t, utterly random Japanese "Star Wars" knock off . The story is incomprehensible, the special effects and dubbing suck and the late 70s disco-era sets and costumes are painful to the eyes. I felt sorriest for American tough-guy character actor Vic Morrow, who drops in here for a quick paycheck playing some sort of mighty galactic general and ends up spending the last quarter of the film wearing a skin tight silver lame' space uniform with a beret. Oh, Vic, you're soooo butch!
As low budget foreign "Star Wars" wanna-be's go, this one makes my personal favorite, Italy's "Star Crash," look like Kubrick's "2001" by comparison. "Message From Space" is worth a look only if you have a severe tolerance for bad-movie pain.

Continuum is the best show on the channel currently. Their programming has gone downhill sadly

I think the Canadian series they are importing are better than anything they can produce on their own.
In December they are premiering a new mini-series of Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. They are pouring a ton of money into promotion for it and I believe it's their first attempt at recapturing the "serious science fiction" crowd. Now to wait and see how good it is.

Hercules (2014)
Not usually the type of film I seek out but it was on Amazon Prime and I said hell with it. Actually pretty entertaining and surprisingly old-school, it felt more like an old 60s sword & sandal epic than a modern one. Lots of physical effects and stunts, some CG but doesn't rely too heavily on it. The Rock is the only performer that doesn't speak in an English accent. Good action sequences for the most part and thankfully the movie is short coming in at just 90 minutes. It doesn't take itself too seriously so it's fun.

My mother and I saw it in the theater. It was fun and not quite what the previews made it out to be (i.e. not really a fantasy type film).

"3 Headed Shark Attack" (2015)
Asylum/SyFy's follow up to "2 Headed Shark Attack" tells you everything you need to know in the title. A mutant triple-headed shark - a byproduct of oceanic pollution - chomps on a whole bunch of people at an undersea research station and a party boat packed with drunken twenty-somethings. Yup, that's it. Not even a late inning appearance by Danny "Machete" Trejo can save this one. Pointless ultra violent junk.

"Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" (2013)
Another cool entry in the "JL" animated film series focusing on the Flash, who trips through the time barrier after a battle with Professor Zoom and winds up in an alternate reality where there's no Superman, Batman is even more dangerous and psycho than usual, and the entire world is threatened by a war between Aquaman's Atlantean kingdom and Wonder Woman's Amazons. Nicely animated as usual with lotsa blasting and zapping.
