"Zombie Shark" (2015)

Note: I can't post a video like I usually do, cuz this movie is SO lame that SyFy didn't even bother to put a trailer on YouTube!

A trio of barrel-boobed Hooters waitress types and their dorky male friend head to a resort island for a weekend of fun, which is rudely interrupted by an escaped government project - a shark with the ability to regenerate itself every time it's been "killed." To make matters worse, any creature - human or shark - that gets bitten by this critter turns into a zombie as well. Yeah, I hate when that happens too.

Aside from "Mega Shark vs. Kolossus," SyFy's "Sharknado Week 2015" offerings have all been pretty dire thus far but "Zombie Shark" may be the bottom of the barrel. I can't say that for sure just yet though because I haven't had time to subject myself to "Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf." Very Happy

Magician: The Astonishing Life & Work of Orson Welles (2015)

Nicely compiled documentary with a wealth of unseen footage from his incomplete films and also a plethora of interviews with Orson from the 1930s up to the interview he completed just hours before he died in 1985.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

And that's tonight's viewing.

Last night:

Ex Machina - A
WWII from Space (doc with CG "sat images" of various campaigns) - A

Also got halfway through A Simple Plan--LOVED it--fell asleep, and the digi rental expired this morning. So 5 bucks for a 24-hour rental. I'm thinking my middle finger needs to extend its way to the studios?

Finally finished Frontier(s).

This was a chore to get through.  It's basically Texas Chainsaw Massacre in France; right down to the "heroine" being "rescued" by another member of "the family" (yeah, it's that clichéd).  And the subtitles are atrocious.   Apparently "Get outta here" in French translates to "Get away" in English while "I'll F you up" translates to "I'll F you" (one little word missing in the translation sure puts a whole different meaning on the line).  Really bad.

I could see those two movies going together quite nicely actually. A Simple Plan proved that Raimi could make good films outside his usual genre niche.

"Lavalantula" (2015)

Volcanic eruptions in L.A.bring forth hordes of prehistoric fire-breathing spiders from deep within the earth... and humanity's only hope is... Steve Guttenberg and the cast of Police Academy??
The stunt casting alone would make this SyFy no budget spectacular (from the director of the similarly ridiculous-but-fun-as-hell Big Ass Spider!) worth a look, but the movie itself turns out to be an action packed, stone cold tongue in cheek hoot that takes all the shark flicks that SyFy's pumped out so far this year, rolls'em up and smokes'em!!

I saw Big Ass Spider and I was shocked to find quality writing and zippy direction. It was so fun I've been looking forward to finishing it. Now Lavantula looks interesting...now there's a sentence I never thought I'd utter.

"Revenge of the Electric Car" (2011)

This intriguing documentary - a follow up to 2006's "Who Killed the Electric Car?" - traces the auto industry's continuing struggles to develop a workable zero-emissions vehicle. The crash of the American economy in 2008 almost kills GM's Volt model while Nissan struggles to bring their fancy new Leaf to market. Meanwhile, zillionaire wonder boy Elon Musk has burned through so much cash keeping his Tesla Motors company afloat - with little to show for it -that many doubt they'll even be able to survive.

My 12 year old - a budding motor head - was watching this on Netflix and even tho I know next to nothing about cars, I still ended up getting involved in this doc. Yes, I'm just as surprised as anyone. Entertaining and informative.

Thanks!  I thought the original documentary from 2006 was excellent, looking forward to this.

I've seen a lot of Tesla's around town over the past year. I went and checked out one of their showrooms in Santa Monica about a month ago when I happened to be in the neighborhood. Cool looking cars.

It was very interesting; I think I may have seen part of the original "Who Killed..." doc some time ago but not the whole thing. I'm gonna have to dig around and see if that's on Netflix too.

I have yet to see a Tesla in my area. I believe there's some sort of lingering legal hangups that are preventing them from opening any dealerships in New Jersey, but I'm not sure what the whole back story is on that.

Lotsa movies this weekend... cuz the family & I are breaking in our brand spankin' new Blu-Ray player :cheese:

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I" (2014)

Katniss Everdeen becomes the face and voice of the Districts' revolution against the corrupt Capitol in the next-to-last installment of the dystopian sci-fi franchise. I haven't read the books but this flick seems to be setting up a pretty epic final chapter to the saga.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" (2015)

Tedious housewife porn based on the inexplicably popular novel. A naive grad student begins a relationship with a dashing, handsome young billionaire - who also happens to be a sadistic bondage freak. Hilarity ensues. Yeah, my wife wanted to see this one... so I took a bullet for the team. Very Happy Unless you are in a similar relationship situation, however, there is absolutely no reason for anyone with a penis to sit through this movie. This one is for the wimmen folk!!

"Superman vs. the Elite" (2012)

Superman meets a quartet of new super-humans whose ideas about justice and morality don't exactly jive with his own, leading to the usual heaps of animated destruction and mayhem. Not the best DC Animated Universe flick I've watched but entertaining enough.

That's what I figured. I was wondering if all the hype was overblown, sounds like it is. BTW, I love the term "housewife porn". Laughing very hard Every male knows exactly what that means! lol!

It was the least erotic "erotic film" I've ever seen. I've gotten a bigger charge out of reruns of "Charmed." lol!
