I love that song, one of the best tunes I can think of that's less than 2 minutes long.
Somehow, Anderson was great with those tunes in the mid-70s. Maybe he was burnt out from all of the long conceptual pieces.
I think "Grace" is one of the most concise, self-contained pieces I've ever heard.

There's a thin line here, and obviously scantily clad women have been a part of rock n' roll and metal for a long time (good or bad), but there's a huge difference between a female rocker--or any woman for that matter--choosing to dress however she wants (and for whatever reason she wants--even if it's just because she wants dudes to think she's hot) than some of the imagery insinuating...male ownership and dominance over women.
Again thin line...most of it is just to get young dudes to buy records or request videos...like Whitesnake. Some of it just crosses over into questionable territory. It can be kind of a bummer when I think about it, so I try not to and just listen to the music that's good.
Oh, I didn't mean them using their own bodys as sex objects. I meant that if an all female band used men as sex objects and showed woman dominance over them, they'd be called empowered.
Any of you guys familiar with porngrind music?
I think only mc666 listens to any of it here; I don't.
But I asked, out of curiosity on another board once, if there was a reverse porngrind, a band with degrading to men content like the porngrind bands are to women. And no, no band fits that bill I know of.

Now we're getting into feminist theory with that stuff. Is there this train of thought in feminism somewhere or other about being "sex positive," and that by effectively boning whoever/wherever you're fully owning your feminine sexuality, etc.? It sounds a bit... Um... Stupid and superficial to me, but I think that's what we're skirting around (see wut I did there? yuk yuk).
Personally, I stand by my earlier statement: if men can have scantily clad women clinging to their ankles on airbrushed album sleeves or strippers in cages on stage and it's acceptable, women should be able to do the inverse as part of their shows.
Now, where I check out is when it translates into treating women or men like crap off stage. Seriously, the Kiss autobiographies made me cringe with how some of them were with groupies. Ick. Women doing that to men - whether it's "just because" or "in the name of feminism" or whatever - is just as ick-worthy.
Maybe what we're really talking about is image vs. reality? From that perspective, is there really anything that SHOULD be verboten in imagery so long as it IS just escapism, extreme imagery, etc.? Marilyn Manson had pseudo-Nazi imagery for a while there but I highly doubt he was calling for Kristallnacht reenactments or anything. I have a hard time seeing the harm.

I just got the new Classic Rock Magazine in the mail today and the first article I read was about Matthew Trippe, the guy who claims he was Nikki Sixx replacement in Crue in the early eighties; and then claimed he was actually Nikki. Excellent article!

I vaguely remember it and I know it was brought up here in he early days of this board. I actually feel kind of bad for the guy as he seemed really misguided through life and (imho) should have tried to carve his own musical niche instead of trying to literally be someone else.

lately my ears have been hurting a bit after cranking metal loudly. Also, it doesn't help matters that I've been in a major thrash phase as well. Hard to listen to thrash with the volume down.

I don't know about porngrind as I have no interests but all female death metal combo Castrator have flipped the script on some of the death metal bands that sing about violence towards women.

You apparently use the term "sing" rather loosely.
But I DO like the idea; if it's accepted for male bands to "sing" about violence to women then the reverse should be OK too.

Wow, never heard Nikki talk about this. I don't recall it coming up in the Dirt book, but it has been a long time since I read it.

I suppose this counts as an example as well...
Cannibal Corpse took a similar approach for their song "Blunt Force Castration". Tired of being called misogynists for some songs whose titles I shall not mention (those who know their music know what songs I mean, I'm sure), they wrote this song as a response, about a woman inflicting brutal violence upon a man.

If I'm not mistaken, I seem to recall during an interview while promoting 'The Dirt', Nikki addressed that omission by saying he didn't want to give the guy any more recognition. Could have been some legal red-tape preventing him from talking about it as well.

Another zombie thread, back from tha dead...arrrrrgh (drool)
Random observation...
Is it just me, or does CDBaby.com have a lot less "metal" offerings than it used to?
I bopped around on there for a while over the weekend for the first time in a couple of years and aside from a few offerings from our ol' pal Stormspell's label, the pickings seemed kinda slim.

You could be right. Now that I think about it, it does seem that there are now far fewer bands who offer CDBaby as a means of obtaining their CDs, and Bandcamp appears to be more popular these days. So maybe more bands are preferring to handle things themselves and are cutting the middleman of CDBaby.

Possibly. I did also notice that a lot of the items that looked interesting kept coming up as "out of stock," which was annoying. I guess a lot of these bands/labels are not bothering to send new supply to CDBaby when they sell out of what they've got on hand.
It kinda bummed me out cuz it used to be fun to dive into their "$5 Sale" bin every once in a while and take chances on a couple of unknown names just for the hell of it. This time, I would've been hard pressed to find three $5 discs that weren't already sold out (or even worse, tagged with the dreaded "download only!")
Frickin progress. Sigh.

I stopped going to CDBaby for just that reason. I'd get sucked into the $5 sale bin and pick up albums only to find out a month later there was a reason these bands were "independent" and in the bargain bin.
Record companies can be blamed for allot of evils, however, sometimes they are needed to separate the wheat from the chaff.
