There are some things that I absolutely love the smell of, but they are either obscene, illegal or reeeaallly bad for you.
The best ones are all three!

Random story I figured I would post here:
While driving at work today I spotted a box of trash by a dumpster. I noticed some cds inside. Upon investigation, I found Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos and Spock's Beard's V, neither of which I had. Both were in good condition but someone had thrown them away. So, being the kind-hearted soul I am, i decided to give them a new home. Gotta love it!

What's really weird about grindcore is most bands have lyrics that are really shocking, gory, misogynistic, or all of the above (usually all of the above, particularly in "porngrind"), or are really insightful and intelligent. Not much in between that I'm aware of.

What? Like "Teabagged at Birth" and "Fingercuffed from the Grave", etc?

Overkill are as good as any of the Big 4. Exodus and Testament are damn close as well. The Big 7

Overkill is most definitely in the same league as the big 4.

I like reading through the thank-you lists and the production credits in the booklets. And the bigger the booklet, the more I appreciate a release.

Outside of his albums with Hades, Alan Tecchio's singing is really, really, really, really irritating.

Do you feel the same way about the vox on the first Watchtower album? Or the more recent song "Size of Matter"?
Or this song:

I've never heard Hades before, but I like Tecchio's vox on the Watchtower record (though I like McMaster's vox on the first record better). However, I thought the vocals on the only Seven Witches album I've ever owned, and which he sang on, were terrible (it was called Amped and I bought it solely bc it was a metal album with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer song on it).

Yes, I didn't like "Amped" either.

No matter what yardstick you measure by apart from maybe being innovators, the big 4 totally deserve their title and I think that it's silly when people try to expand this by including Testament/Overkill/Death Angel/Kreator/Sodom/Insert favorite Thrash Band Here.
If you are talking about the original guys who helped establish the genre then yes, you have to include Exodus for sure.

Yepper, Seven Witches' Amped sucked. Deadly Sins (which followed it) was even worse.

Would that be Control and Resistance? If so... yes. That album was the first time I heard him outside of the Hades bubble...and it did nothin' for me.

I always think it's weird too. I mean, just by record sales and familiarity alone, it's clear they are the big four. That doesn't mean they are the best or most skilled or whatever, per se. I mean, why would you care whether the community at large considers your favorite thrash band to be one of the "big four" or not. That title anyway seemed more like a way to make a big deal over the four bands touring together anyway more than anything else.
I had never heard them categorized as such before that (maybe they've been called that since 1984, I don't know--I just never heard it before).
Whether your preferred band is "big four" or not is arbitrary and really affects nothings. It's like the rock n' roll hall of fame...how much does it really matter if the band you like gets nominated or inducted anyway? It doesn't. At all.

Tecchio didn't sing on "Energetic Dissassembly," though. That was Jason McMaster.
Either way, no, I've never heard more than a few bits and pieces of that one.

McMaster had his irritating moments when he sang for Dangerous Toys as well, haha.

I just had a random thought that was all??!!! Why not a Big 7 - I was a fan in the mid eighties - the Big 4 as great as they obviously are - they were not the only Thrash Metal masters or innovators in the genre. And truly the Big 4 are already my top Thrash bands anyway.

Is it the high-pitch? Are there any lower-pitched vocalists that you think are irritating/annoying?
