"Justice League: War" (2014)
The animated origin story of the "New 52" version of the Justice League. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Shazam all meet for the first time and team up to battle an invasion of Earth by Darkseid and his army of Para-Demons. Lots of bashing, smashing and exploding ensues. Another quality flick from the DC Animated Universe.

Walking Dead, going strong, almost identical to its source, loving it. Except I'm sick of Sasha.
Tron Legacy. Originally B+ but moved up to a solid A on second viewing.

"Green Lantern: Emerald Knights" (2011)
I am really digging these DC Animated Universe flicks lately, in case you couldn't tell. While the Green Lantern Corps prepares to battle yet another massive cosmic threat to the entier universe, Hal Jordan (voiced by Nathan "Castle" Fillion) educates a new G.L. recruit about the feats of some of the Corps' legendary Lanterns of the past. As usual, nicely animated with plenty of action.

For some strange reason I watched the second and third Friday the 13th entries today. I feel so much guilt for wasting my free time on such shit. Funny the difference in seeing these decades later in "high def" as opposed to VHS quality.

The last F13 entry I thought was decent was the second one; after that they really started sucking IMO.
But I agree about the VHS vs HD quality. I think that applies to most older movies. I have the Blu-ray of The Holy Grail and it's just not worth it to me because it shows all the low budget constraints that were more or less masked on VHS. Same thing with Hellraiser. So I adopted a rule; no more blu ray of anything prior to the 90s unless the only alternative I have is a bootleg.

It Follows (2015)
Very effective art-house indie horror film that relies on a palpable creeping sense of dread instead of the usual shock & CG that most low budget horror films use these days. In a way it's a throwback to late 70s and early 80s style suspense/horror films (thanks in part to the excellent retro synthesizer score), but done in an artistic way instead of a cheapo exploitation format. Closest film in tone to this I've seen recently is Let The Right One In. It Follows doesn't quite reach those heights, but it's in the ballpark.
The cast is age-appropriate and mostly features non-professionals except for the lead actress (Maika Monroe who is quite good). What really surprised me about the film is the concept is such a beautifully simple one...I can't believe it hasn't already been done.
Originally the film was going to debut on VOD on Mar 27th, but it has performed so well in limited release (only 30 theaters at the present) that they are postponing the home release and will be expanding the film wide over the next couple weeks.

"Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan" (2013)
Cool documentary about the legendary stop-motion animator and creature creator behind such classic films as "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms," "Jason and the Argonauts," "Clash of the Titans," "Valley of Gwangi" and many more. Features lots of cool clips from his movies as well as kind words from famous fans like Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and Guillermo del Toro.

Now that's a documentary I have to see. Ray was the classic stop-motion animator and many of his movies are woven into my childhood.

I'm going to see that It Follows as soon as I can. The premise alone is fascinating.
The Raid. I have no idea how to grade this one. All I know is I'm exhausted and going to bed. All thanks to this flick.

Just that 2 and a half minute clip is cool enough to watch. Love catching the models thoughout it. I'd love to see the whole thing.

toho, 007 - if you've got Netflix streaming, that's where I saw the Harryhausen doc. Very enjoyable, in addition to the clips from his movies, there's lots of behind-the-scenes stuff as well (test animations, sketches, etc.)

More of ABCs Of Death 2.
This got better reviews than the first one but I'm really not sure why. It starts out pretty strong but I'm through S and so far I think the ones I liked a lot from the first installment beat the ones I like from this one. And there are still a ton of "WTF did I just see" moments.

ABC's of Death never really clicked with me. However, on a related note, I recently went into V/H/S Viral with uber-low expectations (I hadn't seen any of the franchise and I hate found footage) and was kind of knocked off my feet. Two of the vignettes were done by ABC directors, and they're solid. The best entry is by the Spanish dude who did the mind-f*cking Timecrimes--sheer wtf disturbia going on in that one. A solid B+ for the whole anthology (which I've heard is the best of them all).
