I think GnR totally sucks after Appetite and I seldom spin even that one because these days to me Axl's "voice" even back then just sounds like a cat with its tail stuck in a toaster.  I really like the music on Appetite but Axl's caterwauling turns me off now.

Agreed. Tom Petty rules. And Damn the Torpedoes is pretty much a perfect rock n roll album.

I didn't mind Chinese Democracy at all. Some parts of it I actually really liked. It mainly came down to me getting past the whole history of the thing and taking it in as just a record I'm listening to. Which given the reactions it received that makes me a big fan of it I guess.

When King's X first came on the scene I was not a fan at all. I bought into the hype they were getting "as the future of metal" (Galatic Cowboys were another one) and was left very disappointed. Years later I had a roommate who spun their stuff endlessly. And did I ever come around quick once I became familiar with them. Still a big fan today.

No, not necessarily.

I think of it less in terms of guy does thing VS group does thing and more in terms of.... pompous labelling which excludes all the other thousands of singers who also write songs (such as myself) who would not fit in a modern day coffee shop.

Oh yeah, gigs in coffee shops are SO pompous! You might actually make $5 in tips if you're lucky.

 

I gotta agree with Dylan (and Neil Young as well). Very annoying and not my thing at all.

While I don't *hate* these artists (it's close though, I'll say strongly dislike), I will shut off the radio the instant I hear one of their songs beginning...
