I actually did invent my own word to describe this phenomenon that is by no means unique to Rob, but does seem particular to residents of the U.S (English ex pats Jack & Kelly Osbourne are two of the worst culprits though!)

I like to call it Americanizationalisms  

All though seeing it written down it does look a bit racialistic!

It's everything that's wrong with the younger generation. Everyone thinks music is a sport and some type of competition. Sure some players are technically better than others but does that mean they are a better guitar player or a better band? NO!! No band is better than the next. Music is music, they are ALL BANDS!!! I support all metal even if I don't like a genre within it. I support all MUSIC except rap bcuz I don't consider that music at all, and they're no MUSICians in rap LOL!! Well there are a few, maybe?

Everyone of these polls is a favoritism poll, it has nothing and should have nothing to do with comparing bands. Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold both have music and songs I love. I like both bands and both are crazy good... Of course technically Dream Theater is a more talented band but that doesn't mean they write better songs, does it?

Then you have these bands that people always seem to rag on.. Bullet for my Valentine, A7X, and Black Veil Brides. Why? Bcuz of their fan base. Younger people always insisting that they are the BEST thing that's ever happened to music and all other bands suck...

If music means that much to these people and they believe and feel that way about a band, they should just listen to the music and STFU   Cuz when you fall in love with a band, most of the time the opinion is biased and it can get deadly. Like when someone degrades your kids or someone you love, you get defensive.. Well most do.. I tend to just LOL, cuz words never hurt me  

Well, some people in the forum think it's a competition too, what with the "if it's not classic it's not worth listening to" sort of stuff that can permeate things...

Only way they are doing it right is having more people exposed to players or bands they may not of known. Putting musicians up against each other is a terrible idea. If you don't believe me just look at the comment section

We are pretty much discussing the "horrible" idea and not the competition aspect of things.

I agree with not getting worked up, but that is all you see anymore online. If you listen to something someone doesn't like, you're a "loser" "pansy" "BITCH" etc etc etc.. It's way out of control.

Ah, I see. But like Rob said, we're not fighting over bands, just discussing the idiocy of the idea itself. The Facebook comments indicate the same thing--it's as though magazine staff has never heard of these bands.

What throws me is how this type of ignorance (stupidity really) is giving way to a poor representation of the rock and metal genres. Hopefully everyone is as smart as we are to know the difference.

I've read and   at most of the comments. Only a handful seem to realize the concept is really putting music in general against itself. Of course we all have opinions but everywhere I seem to go it's the same thing. "This group is better" "this guy sucks" blah blah blah..

A lot of the times I try to let them know, music isn't a competition of who is better. Music is music, you either like it or move on to something you like. No reason to degrade bands or players.. It's pointless.
