Well at least that's an original idea unlike "Flying Octoshark vs Invisible Pterycroc".

Finally got around to seeing The Avengers (Marvel). I'm not a fan of how comics translate to screen (they really can't) or CGI chaos, but man that was the most fun I've had with a movie in a loooong time. Whedon is just so good at enhancing his characters, and as a Hulk fan I think Mark Ruffalo has proved to be the best Banner yet. On a side note, did anyone think this was more an adaptation of The Ultimates rather than the actual Avengers?

Judas Priest - Epitaph. Well I'm kind of listening to it rather than watching it (60 year old men in tight leather doesn't do a lot for me) but it sounds great!
I still love Nostradamus

at the theater:
The Bling Ring (2013, Sofia Coppola)
Sofia Coppola's entertaining take on the real life Hollywood Hills robberies perpetrated by a group of celebrity obsessed teens breaking into stars homes. Sofia doesn't pass judgement on the characters, instead just telling the story and letting the audience decide for themselves. Newcomer Katie Chang and Emma Watson (sporting a hilarious valley girl accent) are both impressive. Fantastic looking film, the cinematography was very striking.

Pirates vs Angels. Pirates come back from 3 down in the 9th to rally and win by 1 in the 10th inning. Now if the Cards can just lose tonight (no offense Toho).

Last night I watched the premiere of "Under the Dome," a 13 part summer series based on the novel by Stephen King.
The sleepy town of Chester's Mill is suddenly cut off from the outside world when it's abruptly surrounded by a mysterious transparent dome that appears out of nowhere. (Yes, it sounds a lot like "The Simpsons Movie," but Stephen King had started writing/developing the novel back in the early 1980s so he can't be accused of ripping off Homer and the gang.)
The premiere did feel a little rushed, as if they felt that they had to introduce every single character in the first episode. Aside from that, it seems to be off to a good start. I read the book a couple of years ago and I enjoyed it quite a bit, though if memory serves it started unravelling around the three quarter mark. We'll see how this TV adaptation goes...according to some articles I've read, the show will not follow the events of the novel to the letter so maybe they'll come up with a better ending

Did I see a brief glimpse of Dan "Grizzly Adams" Haggartey in there? Please tell me he plays a young Paul Bunyan in a flash-back sequence or something!!

'Inside Deep Throat'...behind the scenes documentary that's definately NOT about the Watergate informant.

Yeah, that is indeed Dan Haggerty. He has a brief part in the opening flashback, not as Bunyan, but as one of his early victims. I laughed like hell when I first saw him, I said to myself "This poor bastard still can't get away from Mountain Man roles even all these years later"

Grizzly also turned up on an episode of "American Pickers" (the antique-hunting show on the History Channel) a month or two ago...the guys who do all the "picking" were invited to go through a bunch of memorabilia and motorcycle related stuff at his house. My wife and I were like "Holy cow, he still looks exactly the same!" ... and then we had to explain to our kids (who were watching with us) who he was.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before but I watched this film again (a friend wanted to see it) and it was possibly harder hitting the second time around!
The directorial debut of Ben Drew (Plan B) and I have to say that he does a great job. I really like this guy as an actor, singer, songwriter, rapper and now he shows that he can turn his hand to directing too.
Highly recommended, but not one to watch with the kids!

"The World is Not Enough" (1999)
In Pierce Brosnan's third go-round as James Bond, the murder of an oil tycoon inside MI6 headquarters sends 007 to Azerbaijan, where the magnate's insane daughter and a Russian terrorist are plotting to corner the region's oil supply by blowing up the competition's pipelines with stolen nukes.
Denise Richards is hilariously miscast as a nuclear bomb defusion specialist (?) who aids 007 in his mission and also happens to look good in short shorts and a tank top.
Featuring lots of big action sequences but coming up short on logic, this may not be Brosnan's best outing as Bond but it's entertaining enough.

Entertaining, but IMHO the worst of the Brosnan Bond flicks. Can you even imagine Connery's Bond hesitating to kill Elektra? Nope, wouldn't happen!
The whole "Ouch, my shoulder hurts" stuff didn't work in this film - the didn't get the injured Bond right until Skyfall.
Still, better than some of the Moore entrees in the franchise, even as it borrows the end battle in a sub from "The Spy Who Loved Me"

We stomped a mudhole in them last night and started to do so tonight but all of a sudden Cardinal pitching started sucking.

Spring Breakers (2013)
Very odd little art-house flick about a group of young girls who turn to robbery to finance a trip to spring break. Once there they get involved with an insane drug-dealer/rapper played by an almost unrecognizable James Franco and more trouble ensues. Lots of hedonism (and boobs) on display, but it is essentially very dark and detached in tone.

"Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997)
In Pierce Brosnan's second James Bond adventure, 007 investigates a Ted Turner/Rupert Murdoch style media mogul (Jonathan Pryce) who's committing terrorist attacks against the Chinese and British military, hoping to pit them against each other - for the sake of ratings. The adventure takes Bond from Hamburg to Vietnam (and a brief look at those funky rock islands from Man With the Golden Gun), where Hong Kong action star Michelle Yeoh drops in as a Chinese agent who helps 007 prevent World War III yet again.
Not quite as good as the preceding "Goldeneye" but a damn solid Bond adventure all around.
