"Moonraker" (1979)

James Bond cashes in on the late 70s "Star Wars" craze in this totally ridiculous, but still enjoyable, adventure. While investigating the disappearance of a space shuttle, 007 visits California, Venice, Brazil, and finally outer space, where crazed industrialist Hugo Drax plans to wipe out all of humanity from his private space station and then re-populate Earth with his hand-picked "master race." The climactic laser-gun battle between the bad guys and the U.S. Space Marines (?) aboard Drax's Death Star is a total hoot.

Silly as hell but tons o'fun, this flick is a sentimental favorite of mine cuz it's the first James Bond movie I saw as a kid (I even had a bunch of the "Moonraker" trading cards from Topps!), and I've been a 007 fan ever since.

Moonraker was the second James Bond film I saw as a kid and I loved it (I was 9 when it came out). Yes, it's goofy as hell, but still loads of fun. Great John Barry score too, I think it's one of the best in the series.

I was also in a mood for over-the-top James Bond this evening.

You Only Live Twice (1967)

One of the goofier Connery flicks, so ridiculously over-the-top it foreshadows the Roger Moore films of the mid 70s. Speaking of those later films...The Spy Who Loved Me borrows A LOT of material from You Only Live Twice, watch those movies back to back sometime and The Spy Who Loved Me ends up looking like a loose remake. In the grand scheme of things You Only Live Twice is one of the weakest Connery vehicles, yet still offers up some highly entertaining sequences.

From Russia With Love is an excellent flick! Moonraker, as you mentioned, is goofy fun.

I do really like You Only Live Twice - lots of fun, even though the Asian makeover didn't look right.......

Watched Looper - pretty cool time travel flick

"Cheech & Chong: Still Smokin'" (1983)

Filmdom's favorite stoners are off to Amsterdam for a film festival... unfortunately, the festival organizers were expecting Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton. While the boys sample the various delights of Holland, they organize an old-school performance of their stand-up bits to save the festival from financial ruin.
So in other words, this is more or less a C&C concert film with a bunch of random stuff padded around it to frame the action. Not their best flick, but it's worth a look just to see some of their classic routines like "Ralph and Herbie" and "Blind Melon Chitlin'."

The Hangover Part II

It was enjoyable, though basically EXACTLY the first movie played out in Bangkok instead of Vegas.

That said, I laughed just as hard at "II" as I did at the first movie. I love that Asian gangsta guy. "We had SICK night, b*ches! Monkey jerk me off while Stan make @#$% with lady boy!" Laughing very hard

Just finished watching the Tim Burton version of Planet Of The Apes

At the end I remembered why it could of been done better. Seems a story on how the ending of that flic came to be would be interesting ? who knows ?

Oh, I definitely laughed just as much at it as I did number one. I almost pissed myself when he picked up the Uzi "It looks so real" and then he emptied the clip. Laughing

I loved The Hangover. The Hangover Part II was entertaining enough, but it almost felt like a remake as opposed to a real sequel. Hopefully The Hangover Part III shakes up the formula a little bit.

Back to:

The Drew Carey Show: Glad I got the bootleg DVDs and downloaded the episodes for free. I doubt any more seasons will go to DVD as they still can't get the rights to the music (either the people with the rights to the show are asking for too little or the artists or the people with the rights to the music are asking too much).

Just watched a few episodes of "Happy Days" from the first season in 1974. Still had Ritchie's older brother Chuck in the show.

A head scratcher was that Mr "C" was cool with Ritchie going to a stag party with Marines but going to a drag race was frowned apon in the next episode. It was cool, going back to a certain time in my youth when I watched the show on TV. Hope to catch more episodes, especially the early ones while the cast was still in high school.

Funny you mentioning Happy Days during the same time I'm going through The Drew Carey Show. Mrs. "C" is played by the same actress who played Drew's Mother (sometimes refered to as Mrs. "C" by Lewis). Also the guy who played Mr. "C" had a cameo apperance as Mimi's dad on one episode. Also The Fonz (Henry Winkler) was in an episode as an owner of Winfred-Louder, the fictional department store Drew worked at.

"Battleship" (2012)

Expensive turkey supposedly based on the classic Hasbro board game (?) starts out as a glossy, gung-ho military-recruiting porn ala "Top Gun" and then suddenly turns on a dime into a mish mash of "Independence Day," "Armageddon" and "Transformers" as alien invaders crash land in the Pacific and the U.S. Navy has to roar to the rescue. Lots 'n' lots of big explosions ensue, so at least I wasn't bored.

Dumb as a box of rocks but I found it entertaining enough in a fast-food kinda way.
