Great movie!
Spoiler:
I like how they reversed Kirk and Spock's roles for the yelling of "KHAAAAAAN!"

Pirates at Tigers on MLB Network (due to Cardinals rain delay) and Cardinals at Royals.

Ouch... that was painful to watch - extremely cringe-worthy... other than that line and the whole segment leading up to it, great flick

Star Trek: Into Darkness
Excellent. Even better than the last one and I loved it as well. I know he's popular to hate but I personally think J.J. Abrams is one seriously talented dude.

Agree - and I am glad he's directing the next Star Wars.... he seemed to have kept the lens flare to a minimum in Into Darkness (either that or I am used to his "lens flare" by now!)

I will definitely be buying this once it's out on DVD. I'm a major "Trekkie" (currently into season 5 of TNG) so I was totally prepared to be disappointed by the first entry in this "reboot". But I thought the first one was excellent and kept the feel of the original series (I have all of those as well).
Looking forward to this new entry...

J.J. shoots on film using true anamorphic lenses which are prone to flares when the camera is pointed at a light source. He likes the look (as do I) because it brings a sense of realism and also harkens back to the look of 60s and 70s cinematography. The only fake flares are during the CG sequences but those are added to match the look of the on set footage.

I think the flares are cool too. Those kinds of bells and whistles fit well with the vision of what Trek is IMO.
I still don't think I like this one as much as the first one as a whole, but there are definitely sequences where they knock it out of the park.

Began to watch "Song Remains The Same" while trading stories with the ol' lady about midnite movies as a teen. She was in the "Rocky Horror" camp and I was pn the "Song" group. After "No Quarter", I had to flip it off and watch some better footage/performance of the band and put on Disc One of the Zeppelin DVD.

After thinking about it for awhile, I have demoted the new Star Trek from "okay" to "crap." It was a very dumb movie, with a horrible plot written by idiots.

Did ya hear that SyFy is canning "Warehouse?" Its "final season" next year will consist of six whole freakin episodes. Pffft. I'm bummed.
Yep - that sucks. The show hasn't jumped the shark yet and is still a good show. Six episodes???? They deserve at least a full season. I wonder if the contracts of the actors are up for renewal and SyFy doesn't want to pay them more cash.
Actually it appears the ratings are to blame, the show has been on a steady decline since halfway through season 3. At the the beginning of Season 3 they were pulling in a fairly regular 2.5 million viewers per episode, that has plummeted down to just a little over a million per episode this year...which means they've lost half of their viewers during Season 4.

'Behind the Candelabra' on HBO...
Pretty interesting to say the least. The graphic nature of the sex scenes were only outmatched by the graphic nature of the plastic surgery scenes.

I watched the Cardinals/Royals game last night. Tonight I'll watch the Royals/Cardinals game. I think this scheduling is stupid. Play two games on the road, come home and play 2 more games against the same team. At least KC and STL are only a few hours apart. Poor Toronto and Atlanta have to do the 2 on the road/2 at home thing and they're what, 2000 miles apart? Crazy.

British slang for "container" or "can" (as in beer can). In other words it provided what it advertised on the package.
At least I think that's what he meant!

Yeah, it's from an old TV ad here in the U.K (for wood stain of all things!) and somehow has slipped into use for anything that is exactly what you have paid for.

aka "a colloquialism". I'll have to try that one out at an appropriate time on some of my UK counterparts. I may actually have an opportunity tomorrow. They've lodged a complaint that our application is not doing what it's supposed to but I think it is. It's doing exactly what it said on the tin.

That's funny!
Same thing happens here; ad tag lines end up insinuating themselves into colloquial "American-speak".
"Where's the beef?" for example. Started out as an ad for the Wendy's hamburger chain back in the 80s I think and ended up becoming a euphemism for "show me something important or substantial" for a while.
If I remember correctly we even had politicians quoting it when confronting their opponents.
