Wow! Kingmaker rocks! Much better than the title track. Even the production seems to be better.

I'm starting to think that this may have been a P.R masterstroke on behalf of Megadave! I think that Kingmaker is a very, very average Megadeth song (there are much better on Risk!) but because it's loads better than the he let us hear first, people seem to love it!

it's the blind fanaticism that makes people like it
i think the last GOOD Megadeth song that really caught my attention was ''99 Ways To Die'' or 3 songs from ''Youthanasia'' or somethin like that....and I can't remember when the heck it came out, prolly a loooong time ago
This band is simply old and tired

There is no fanaticism on my part. "Kingmaker" is simply a very good song.

I didn't see a lot of fanaticism when everyone was bashing the last song.

I can't offer anything tangible to the conversation, so I'll throw out some diatribe and a lil ad hominem to hopefully ruffle some feathers and get some attention.
Maybe we can start a new section for blind fanatacism and call it "The Mr. Mc Goo Adulation Corner"
Even Monte dislikes Megadeth after what 1990 or so ? .....and he at least doesn't poke with a proverbial stick every chance he gets.

I love Megadeth, I don't think that they have ever put out a truly bad record (there are a fair few I'm not mad keen on) but they have been one of the best bands of my metal listening life, I think that Killing, Peace Sells, Rust and United Abominations are brilliant!
But for me, this stuff kind of reminds me of So Far, so good, which I think sounded like a band that had lost their way a bit with some guys in the band that were nowhere near as good as the guys they replaced. It kind of sounds as though they are back in that place now.
I don't want to kick them, I'm firmly of the opinion that without Dave Mustaine, the course of metal history would have been pretty different.
I have never said that Kingmaker is a bad song, i just don't think that it's the one to propel them back to the heights that I still live in hope that they can recapture.

Risk sold 320,000 copies.
Wonder how this one will do?

I don't think you can compare sales numbers of both of those. The music industry is a whole other beast now.

Elmo's M.O is if nodody likes it, he does and if others like it, he don't.
Being it's constant (or pretty much so) my belief is he does it just to antagonize others. To each their own, I suppose.

I don't like much of it, there are a few really good songs that sound nothing like Megadeth and at least they were trying to do something different, but mostly it was a brave failure.
This new stuff just smacks of playing it safe and sticking to the formula that has worked well over the last few years, that's fine if that's what you want, enjoy! I just don't think the songs that I've heard have been up to the standard of United Abominations or even Endgame.
I think that my estimation of this record will always be tainted by Dave's Killing is My Business comments. I love that record so much and to compare this stuff to that record was just plain silly.
But if you guys love it then that's cool.

Come on man, at 41 you should know better than to think it's anything else but hype. Ever since bands started getting interviewed in music publications way back when, They always compared the new album to some significant accomplishment of the past.
I know that with the musicians Dave has in Megadeth presently, no chance of the album being as good as anything from 20 plus years ago. Dave can write a great tune but having boring, predictable musicians playing them can kinda/sorta take any edge away and keep something from being great.

Yeah, I said as much on this thread before I heard a note. Even with my very limited grasp of the subject, the whole notion of the current drummer playing anything like Gar is a bit silly. Also at 41 with 27 of those years hearing Dave talk out of his I really should know better . But I thought that it might be up there with the best of his recent stuff and so far I'm not overly impressed.
I have heard Kingmaker a couple more times and it's growing on me a bit, I think it's a decent song, but Public Enemy Number 1 was a decent song too and I never play Thirteen now.
I really do wish that he would go back to Andy Sneap as well.

Fanaticism never plays any part in what I like or don't like. If a band I loves puts out a bad album I will in no way sugar coat my disappointment. Case in point, Maiden is my favorite band of all time, but Final Frontier was a major disappointment for me.
