Of course it's a different era, I believe the reason for pointing it out is that in the 70s you had bands releasing very high quality recordings very quickly, so it's not impossible. Bands don't make much money from albums any longer, any money they make is from constant touring. In the 70s, 80s and 90s it was common for bands to put out albums about once a year. Release an album, go on tour for 6 months, head back into the studio and start the process over. Now that paradigm has changed to: Release an album, go on tour for 2+ years, then head back into the studio. These days you're lucky to get a new album every 3 years. Record sales are 50% of what they were in 1999, however live music revenue has increased 40% from that same era due to all the festivals and package tours. |

| I understand that bands have released tons of output without much time in between records. Megadeth did it too. But even those mighty bands Zep, Sabbath, Kiss, etc. all succumbed to road burn out and a steady decline in creativity. I'm not going to pretend sabbath or zep's last albums are even close to the quality of thier presceeding work. I'm just saying there has to be something done to respark the fire to continue. In black sabbath's case, getting a new singer with a different vibe and the ability to write his own stuff did the trick for a while. With priest, the challenge of presented by really aggressive bands stealing their thunder inspired the awesome painkiller album. With megadeth, time off has proven to work, I'm suggesting it might again.
Very few bands have maintained consistent(ly good) output for the amount of time megadeth has. Those that have are special and are plain old on another level.

| MEGADETH had most of the songs for their first 3 albums written in their first year of existence!
After a while people start families and have less time/music to devote to music. Add to that increased touring and you end up with some phoned-in albums.
I love JUDAS PRIEST (they are in my top 3 favorite bands ever) but almost all of their albums are very uneven in quality. Thank goodness there are so many of them so we can bunch all the good tracks together.

That's what he said to Geoff Tate about his re-recordings on Frequency Unknown. I understand kissing ass is kind of necessary in his profession, but he needs to picks his spots a little better. There isn't one thing "really cool" about those re-recordings. This is one time that any other opinion is flat out wrong! Haha. But hey, the new Megadeth tune is not nearly that bad so he may very well dig it. I certainly didn't hate it.

But hey, the new Megadeth tune is not nearly that bad so he may very well dig it. I certainly didn't hate it. You're right. He is an ass-kisser with the people he has strong relationships. Like Sammy Hagar. Ed has so much bullshit to speak about Sammy. But when it comes to Gene Simmons he gets on the pedestal. I had no idea he said that about FU; that just confirms his brown-nosing. In this case, he and Dave are pretty close, so there you go.

| I gave super collider another honest listen. And there ar some things that are starting to pop out to me as positives. One being I love the bass playing going on. I did on the other clip as well. One thing that disappointed me about thirteen was that Dave jr.'s presence back in the band was underwhelming. It's cool to hear him bassin' it up. The song definitely gives him room to groove. The chorus is starting to gel with me more. Depending where the song sits in the tracklist it may make more sense in the context of the album. I still wish it sounded more finished. But my initial disappointment is starting to soften. | |

| Well said but for me I don't look at it as disappointment. It's like there's this road map on display that points to all things gone wrong for this album. So I guess you could say I'm both apprehensive and am going in with low expectations. Here are some clues I'm gleaning:
1. Thirteen was terribly mixed and was made up of unfocused songwriting. 2. The cover to Super Collider is a bizarre choice. 3. Johnny K selected to produce the album. 4. Again, let that sink in: Johnny K selected to produce the album. 5. David Draiman as guest vocalist (I understand many not see why this is a big deal). 6. Title track released for streaming as single, sounds like an anti-thrash mediocre mess. 7. Single stream quickly pulled from website, allegedly due to negative reception. 8. Metal boards everywhere fill with hate and anger. j/k
I feel like I'm forgetting something, but you get the gist. I'm still holding out for a hero on this one, but I'm not feeling it now. Shrug.

Same here Ditto. I'm a fan-boy, so there's gonna be something of value in it for me regardess. Unless it's Risk Pt. II. I will admit that Junior and Dave going on in the press about how old-school (fast, thrashy, multiple time changes, etc.) this new album is, then releasing a track that is nothing at all like that seems moronic. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. This is what has blown it for me. Killing ig My Business is my favorite Megadeth record and they were comparing this to that album, from the bits that I've heard, I wouldn't be too surprised if they were getting high again! Exactly! Common sense be darned to heck! I'm getting out all my over analytical nitpicking now so that I can look like a total hypocrite when supercollider doesn't leave my CD player for a month, thank you very much. I'm a fanboy too and no matter how much my mind tells me this will be a let down ill probably still squeal like a schoolgirl when I spin it for the first time. The heart just wants what it wants I guess.

| I'm still in disbelief at how much one of those new Megadeth songs sounds like one of Ultimatum's old songs.
I'm looking forward to this album nonetheless. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| No kidding... I just did a side by side comparison of "don't run your back" and "one for all"... The resemblance is sure striking. By the by, that's one of my favorite ultimatum songs. I think I'm just gonna let "into the pit" play thru now as I finish my last hour of back breaking pain in th ass work. It will make things better | |

| I recall Van Halen putting "Tattoo" out in front of "A Different Kind Of Truth" and just about everybody was like, .....and the rest of the album was not only better, it was different. Like I've already said, the title track isn't bad and my basis for liking this new Megadeth album is not gonna be on the merits of the first tune thrown over the fence. _________________ | |

Okay, this is a very good point. Same here, Tattoo AND You and Your Blues were the first two songs our station debuted, and I was mortified. Also, the album title choice was horrendous, the cover art was generic...I was just expecting the worst. Turned out to be a dream come true. That said, perhaps waiting for Super Collider in full before generating an opinion is the best idea. Naw. It's gonna suck
